On the boards is the new Bakar ClimatEnginuity Hub at the University of California, Berkeley. Currently in design, the five-story state-of-the art facility will foster innovation in climate technology. This new hub, designed by Gensler, will provide a collaborative workspace for entrepreneurs and researchers, driving the development of cutting-edge climate solutions. The donor-funded 145,000-square-foot facility will be located on the west side of campus and open during the 27-28 academic year. Stay tuned for more project updates! New to the Tipping website is the recently completed Contra Costa County Administrative Building, a design-build, zero-waste project providing County offices, ground floor parking, and commercial space facing a public plaza. https://lnkd.in/gwWskKnA An efficient layout allowed us to simplify the overall 68,000 sf building design and focus our attention on key architectural elements. In particular, Tipping developed unique details that allow the curved concrete wall at the front of the building and the concrete stair tower walls to slip past other structural elements during a seismic event.?The County’s original concept for this project specified a steel structure, but we worked with the design team to offer the County a more cost-effective solution: a thin-profile post-tensioned concrete structure. This design increased the available program space by twenty-thousand square feet, which included adding the third story within the original budget. As an added bonus, the concrete shear walls offer better seismic resilience. #BacktoSchool spotlight on the De La Salle High School STREAM Innovation Center, a new high school building that boasts state-of-the-art laboratories side-by-side with classrooms, conference spaces, and department offices. https://lnkd.in/gyHAEcD9 Located in Concord, CA, the 39,000 sf building was designed to encourage collaboration among students and across projects, with state-of-the-art laboratories integrated with classrooms. Conference spaces and department offices are located adjacent to teaching spaces to further encourage sharing and learning experiences. The center is designed to maximize energy efficiency and features solar-tracking operable sunshades as well as exposed thermal mass and radiant conditioning. Low-cement concrete was used throughout.
