"You don't have to be great to serve, but you have to serve to be great." The Carpenter

If you don't wake up tomorrow, if it turns out that today is your last day on earth, will you be proud of what you've done, of what you've accomplished, in this life? Because if you aren't, you need to have some urgency in your life. The clock keeps ticking down and the closer it gets to zero, the more we should realize how precious and amazing that NOW is. If you want to have a huge impact, if you want to leave this world better off - invest your life in things eternal.

"You don't have to be great to serve, but you have to serve to be great." The Carpenter

How do you make 800,000 jobs vanish? Maybe they never existed. While it hasn't received much in the way of media attention, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported yesterday that the U.S. economy added a lot fewer jobs (818,000 to be exact) over the past year than previously reported. Put another way, America only added 173K monthly jobs over the past months. Reuters and others have reported that at least 200K new jobs are needed each month just for those who illegally entered the U.S. So, why has the Biden Administration been padding the job creation numbers each month? Are they simply inept? Is their methodology unsuited to provide us with an accurate picture of jobs created? Or is there another reason? You decide. https://lnkd.in/gnNA9GHp

  • This is what happens when the Government tries to force products on consumers - companies lose money.

  • DEI and EV charging stations - a lethal combo.

"You don't have to be great to serve, but you have to serve to be great." The Carpenter

America's EV Charging network has short-circuited. Last month, we learned that the Biden DOE's $7.5B (that is not a typo - "B" is for "billion") program for funding 500,000 (1/2 Million) EV charging stations had installed just 7 stations. What went wrong? "According to internal memos from the Department of Transportation obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, as well as interviews with those who are responsible for overseeing the implementation of the electric vehicle charging station project, the delay is in large part due to the White House’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives." Yes, DEI strikes again. To add fuel to the fire (or "current to the circuit"), a recent Harvard Business School study identified multiple problems hindering the adoption of EV's. One of the major issues is the reliability of charging stations. Pricing was also another significant issue as many drivers were unpleasantly surprised at how much it cost to fuel their EV. So, if you own an EV and are planning a summer vacation that requires you to drive your EV a significant distance away from home, you might ought to consider a very long extension cord, or just driving your dependable, easy to fuel, ICE-powered vehicle.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies should be abandoned in favor of Merit, Excellence, and Intelligence (MEI).

"You don't have to be great to serve, but you have to serve to be great." The Carpenter

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Businesses, Universities, and Organizations are finally getting the message: Diversity is not our strength. Diversity is a result of our strength. America's promise, ideals, freedoms, and opportunities have resulted in our diversity, and promoting liberty and the "self-evident truths" espoused in the Declaration of Independence are the best way to promote diversity. It is important that people from all backgrounds be treated fairly. To paraphrase Dr. Martin Luther King, we should judge a person not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Today, "Diversity" means treating people as a representation of their group identity (ancestry, political ideology, faith, etc.) - sorting them into a hierarchy and then discriminating for or against them based on their group identity. It means putting identity above merit. By the way, merit is not a "bad word." No group has a monopoly on excellence. Selecting people on the basis of merit will naturally yield a variety of backgrounds and ideas. As far as "Equity" goes, we all agree that opportunities should be available to everyone. However, "equity" is contradictory to "equality." Equality means impartiality (as in "equal under the law") while recognizing that individuals have different talents and motivation - which will inevitably lead to inequalities, i.e., someone who is not as driven will not have the same opportunities and success. "Equity" attempts to force equalization through redistribution of promotions, positions, wealth, and rewards. This is a key element of Critical Race Theory (CRT). Finally, we all agree that companies, universities, and organizations should promote creative and constructive environments. However, "inclusion" is used to suppress disfavored groups and opinions, i.e., "speech codes. Those labelled as members of "oppressor groups" (men, Christians, Conservatives, etc.) actually become "excluded," and many institutions implement "hate speech" and "safe space" policies which are used to silence dissent and, especially, conservative speech. Alexandr Wang, who founded Scale AI in 2016, recently explained why his company will hire for MEI (Merit, Excellence, and Intelligence) and not DEI. Wang said, "We will not pick winners and losers based on someone being the 'right' or 'wrong' race, gender, and so on. It should be needless to say, and yet it needs saying: doing so would be racist and sexist, not to mention illegal. Upholding meritocracy is good for business and is the right thing to do. This approach not only results in the strongest possible team, but also ensures we’re treating our colleagues with fairness and respect." https://lnkd.in/g9uDwRPR

Tesla sales are falling, and layoffs are starting. Ford is "rethinking" their EV plans due to stagnation of sales and expected losses of more than $5B. GM had to take a $1.7B hit for losses relating to existing EV inventory in Q4 of last year. EVs are draining billions from profitable ICE vehicle sales. How are these OEMs covering their losses? Could it be that Ford, GM, and others are increasing the prices of their gasoline-powered vehicles to "finance" EV product lines? Congratulations! If you have bought (or are planning to buy) an ICE vehicle, you are helping to cover the losses that the OEMs are experiencing with their EV product line. Who should we thank? Perhaps we should start with the Biden Administration who has announced a rule that would require automakers to sell more electric vehicles by tightening limits on tailpipe pollution (ignoring the fact that EVs produce more pollutants from tire wear than any ICE tailpipe). https://lnkd.in/gkGeuJaN
