What happens when you put 100 of the top community builders in NYC in a room for a night? Your jaw hurts, you hear a buzzing sound in your ears for a week (no, it's not tinnitus), you go home and PTFO, and you ask yourself for a week if it would be funny to start a community called "Extroverts Anonymous." Well, we did this event in the summer. Some of you missed it. But we're doing it again on December 5th. The Community Builder Winter Social. If you went to the event, you have already scrambled into the comments for the link. But if you didn't... you've been warned. The word "community" will never sound the same again. This time, we have a form. But we also want aspiring community builders. So here's my ask: - Sign up if you're in NYC, you're free on December 5th, and the word "community" gets you hot and bothered. ? Extra credit: Tell me in the comments what kind of community you are building so I know you want it ?? - If you do not live in NYC but live vicariously through your friends, tag the one who vibes. ? Extra credit: Give them a nomination speech in the comments. This one is just fun and helps you share the love. s/o to my cohosts Derek Kastner of Fabrik and Ruthie Berber, a "name," community addict, and NYC chapter leader of Led by Community. #community #extrovertsanonymous

Rooting for underestimated entrepreneurs on the 0 to $1M journey | Get your first 100 Happy Paying Customers with go-to-market (GTM) micro-tests | 2x first GTM hire | 5 GTM mistakes to avoid (free video) featured below
Your business is just a series of hypotheses until you get Happy Paying Customers. As a founder, there can be a lot of competing priorities — product, raising, networking, taxes, legal, hiring and so much more. But I’ve seen it over and over that founders who make real progress with their startup are ruthlessly trying to close deals. I met one such founder recently — Zach Hawtof on my nyc trip. He’s not only been prioritizing getting customers, but specifically get big logos. He has 10 paying customers (and counting of course), out of which several are big names like Clay. 1?? How did he get these companies to trust him and his startup? 2?? How did he get customer 1? 3?? What is his go-to-market playbook to find, engage and convert dream customers? These are just some of the questions Zach will be answering during tomorrow’s Founder-Led Marketing Club session. I’ll be grilling him on the story behind every single customer from 1 to 10. If you know Zach, you know this is going to be a good one. If you’re a startup founder on your own journey to 10 Happy Paying Customers, I’ve reserved 7 seats. Comment below (or DM if you’re in stealth) with a one liner about your startup to get a guest pass!

Thrilled is an understatement of my feelings for?Myles Scolnick at marimo. Not only have he and I been sidestepping from middle + high school in Denver, college at Berkeley, and now founder life in NYC, but his approach to building marimo is noteworthy. Here's why: Community is at the core. OF COURSE, this is where I was going—do you know me yet, LinkedIn? I haven't touched a Python notebook in at least a decade, but watching the ecosystem that Myles and team have grown around the product is nothing short of astounding. And they are taking on a massive incumbent with an experience that feels like when Figma first hit the scene. And we all know how that went ?? How do I know they are community-first? Well, there's an easy trick to tell. 1?? Go to their website: https://marimo.io/ 2?? Look at the nav menu and watch it unfold across an Ambassador program, Github, and Discord. Do I hold it against them that they aren't on a Slack community? No, I do not. Gotta meet your members where they are! ...That said, I know we'll be chatting about Tightknit soon when Marimo is the go-to notebook for the Fortune 500. Congrats Myles. Excited for you, dude.
Thrilled to announce marimo's $5M seed round, led by AIX Ventures' Anthony Goldbloom and Shyam Mani! ?? We're honored to be backed by industry pioneers who champion open-source innovation: AIX, Ben Hamner (ex-Kaggle, Sumble), Charlie Marsh (Astral), Clem Delangue ?? (HuggingFace), Jeff Dean (Google), Jordan Tigani (MotherDuck), Lukas Biewald (Weights and Biases), Paige Bailey (Google), Wes McKinney (Posit, Composed Ventures), Shane Barratt, and Alex Moskowitz. Read our announcement blog: https://lnkd.in/eKkh-qxm P.S. We are hiring https://lnkd.in/e3tR2FRN

It used to be that the first integration every B2B SaaS would build was to Salesforce. But that's no longer the case. And I'm not sure how Marc Benioff and Bret Taylor predicted it, but they correctly guessed who would take the throne. In 2021, Salesforce bought Slack for a cool $28B, which was too much coin at the time, no matter how much you liked Slack. 24x estimated revenue? That's some peak ZIRP-era acquiring. Three years have passed, and my opinion on that deal has changed dramatically... Because. Slack. Is. Everywhere. Every marketing, sales, service, and commerce company is building its first integration, and 9 times out of 10, it's Slack. It's why our company Tightknit is built on Slack, in Slack, and around Slack. There isn't a preposition that doesn't apply to us—yes, all of them. "But Zach, I know nothing about building an app in Slack. How can my business get started?" I'm so glad you asked! ? This Tuesday at 5 PM in SF, my cofounder and CTO Stephen Cook is presenting how to build a Slack application. The event is called "How to Build Your Own Slack App," misleading because Stephen is the ?? when building Slack apps. You'll learn how to build a Slack empire. I'm sorry to the other panelists, but there is no one more knowledgable. Go check it out—link in the comments. And Salesforce OG Gillian Bruce will be the moderator, who moved her career from Salesforce dev to Slack dev. If that isn't a sign of the times, what is?

We just wrapped up two amazing virtual Community Town Halls! It was such a joy to celebrate our incredible HR, people, and culture pros with awards, share updates (including our new Community Recognition Program powered by Tightknit) and connect as true People Geeks. ?? Leading this community brings me endless joy—and as you can see in the pic, I was loving every moment! Huge thanks to everyone who joined and made it so special. Do you have one of these channels in your Slack community: #feedback, #ideas, #kudos, #give-thanks, #ask-anything? Then it may be beneficial to allow anonymous posts! Anonymous posts can offer psychological safety in situations where you want to elicit sensitive feedback, candid opinions, or open gratitude, by removing the fear of judgement and marginalization. (Side effects may include improved communication, higher engagement, increased creativity, and a sense of inclusivity.) With Tightknit, simply enable the feature in your channel, and then any user can type /anonymous to get started.

We're doing it again—but this time bigger, better, and badder ?? People speculate it could be the next Dreamforce, and I can't blame them... It's the biggest Slack AI community event of the year: ?? "Agent State of Mind, a deep dive into Slack AI" I know what you're thinking—how is this bigger than Dreamforce? Is Pink and Imagine Dragons performing at a live concert? Is Matthew McConaughey making an appearance? Well, I can't promise Matthew won't be there, but I can promise the following: 1?? You will finally understand Slack AI and the future roadmap. 2?? You will get all the juicy details on the NYC Agentforce Hackathon (Nov 18-19) and NYC Agentforce World Tour (Nov 20). 3?? You will meet McKenna Lowry, Principal Design Architect behind Slack AI, who will explain how she builds robust AI products in the tool we use every day... Slack. Okay, yes, those are tears on my face—it's hard to contain the excitement. ? SIGNUP in the comments ? (Not that you need to know, but we also give out swag to select participating attendees. I have gotten rave reviews for this swag. It's really good.) Thank you to McKenna, Jacob Gross, Gillian Bruce, Kathy Lee, and my NYC coleaders Sara Dillon, Shyam Bhojwani, and Kanav Abrol See you there ??
