In India, the tradition of having a swinging bench, commonly called a "jhoola" or "oonjal," dates back to ancient times, where it was primarily used by royalty and considered a symbol of luxury, often found in palaces and mansions; over time, swings became more accessible to common people and are now deeply ingrained in Indian culture, associated with festivals, weddings, and celebrations, representing joy and family bonding. The swing at Deer Trot is nestled in the secluded den, perfectly aligned with a large south-facing window. It’s the ideal spot to curl up, enjoy a gentle sway, and get lost in a good book. Tight House collaborated closely with the millworker, upholsterer, and even the framing crew to bring this special piece to life—ensuring every detail was just right. If you could add a unique feature like this to your home, what would it be?

The rear of Deer Trot House is designed for both connection and retreat. Vaulted glass walls in the main living space and primary bedroom frame stunning backyard views, while thoughtful placement ensures privacy—even outdoors. A low-maintenance rock zen garden divides the two wings, with a custom fountain and raised planter offering a tranquil, accessible space for gardening. A home that embraces nature, privacy, and the joy of everyday rituals.

A well-designed bathroom should serve you for years to come—both in function and atmosphere. At Deer Trot House, the generous curbless shower was designed with aging in place in mind, offering ease of access without compromising on beauty. A built-in bench and hand shower enhance accessibility, while a soft cove light gently illuminates the textured accent wall, creating a calming ambiance for an evening shower. Beyond function, the tile design brings both visual interest and practicality. A playful mix of textures provides a dazzling effect while also improving slip resistance in wet zones, transitioning to larger formats near the vanity. Accessible design can be beautiful design. What small details make a space feel more comfortable to you? Let me know in the comments!

In an open-concept home, the kitchen isn’t just a kitchen—it’s part of the living space. That means it has to function as a workspace when needed but blend in as a refined piece of furniture when not in use. At Deer Trot House, the kitchen and dining area were designed as a cohesive zone, balancing utility and elegance. Tall storage anchors the space, flanking the kitchen with wall ovens on one side and a panelized refrigerator on the other. A hidden pantry seamlessly integrates into the millwork, storing the full wine collection and providing extra prep space. The dining area serves more than just meals—it stores fine china, special dinnerware, and an intimate wine bar, ensuring that everything needed for hosting is right where it should be. A kitchen should work hard, but it should also feel effortless. How do you balance function and aesthetics in your home? Let me know in the comments!

At the Deer Trot House, every material was chosen with intention—including the flooring. That’s why mafi - walk on art was the natural choice. Unlike traditional poly-coated floors that feel like plastic, mafi wood floors look and feel like real wood. Their natural oil coating enhances the warmth underfoot, making them an incredible sensory experience—soft, breathable, and never overly polished. Beyond aesthetics, mafi floors are designed for stability and longevity. As an engineered product, they resist cupping, twisting, and shrinking, meaning tight, seamless joints and fewer gaps over time. The extra-wide planks add a subtle sense of luxury, elevating the space with clean lines and a modern, expansive feel. If you love an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, mafi floors are a smart investment, standing up to humidity and temperature changes without warping. They’re not just durable; they’re healthy. mafi floors are free of formaldehyde and VOCs, made with natural oils and white glue, improving indoor air quality for a home that truly supports well-being. Sourced from regulated, regenerative forests, they align with Tight House’s commitment to sustainable, resilient design. From bathrooms to high-traffic areas, mafi floors prove that durability and beauty don’t have to come at the expense of health. Would you consider a healthier, more sustainable flooring choice for your home? Let’s talk.
