One of my greatest joys in running Women+ in Climate Tech Global Network is the opportunity to collaborate with my father (pictured here with my brother and mum on their holiday visit to the US). Renowned social scientist, Professor Paul Whiteley co-led the British Election Study for more than a decade and is a Fellow of the British Academy. His appointment as the Pamela Harriman Professor of Government and Public Policy at the College of William & Mary in Virginia was the reason I moved to the United States as a teen. Together, we have collaborated on a number of surveys of the members of Women+ in Climate Tech over the past three years. Our goal is to support climate professionals who are doing the impossible every single day. Today I'm proud to unveil the results of our latest and most comprehensive survey to date on salaries in the climate tech sector: https://lnkd.in/e7Q7uy4s More than any other month, January is when employees are most likely to change jobs. January is also a time for New Year’s resolutions, and more people than ever are?quitting their jobs?to work in the climate sector. Women+ in Climate Tech’s salary survey helps career seekers with data for negotiations, and employers with data for benchmarking. The data can also serve to hold the emerging climate tech industry accountable to the tenets of fairness and social responsibility that we collectively, as an industry, espouse. Happy New Year to friends and colleagues near and far.

President Mike Casey and Senior Vice President Melissa Baldwin broke down the “3 Drivers of Attention” back in July 2023. Now Melissa has taken this idea one step further in the American Solar Energy Society Solar Today magazine. If you are a #cleantech company seeking more news coverage, read this article to gain a better understanding of the media world and how you can help support the PR professionals who pitch your stories.

Over the years, the bar for newsworthiness — or the attention meter — has shifted. American newsrooms are shrinking while the perceived appetite for bold behavior expands. ?? In this article, I walk through the three drivers of attention, and I suggest a few tips to help you generate earned media attention in 2024. ?? In PR, we use a term called "earned media." The difference between "earned media" and "paid media" is that with earned media, you are convincing a reporter that your story is newsworthy enough to garner coverage. You're not paying for the piece, so you have less control over the narrative, and you have to be willing to say interesting things — not just about yourself — if you want to maximize your coverage. Enjoy! #pr #cleanenergy #solarenergy #climatesolutions #communications

    #Cleantechers - a call to action below.

    查看Mike Casey的档案,图片

    President at Tigercomm

#Cleantechers –?Last month, Sens. John Barrasso (WY) and Hawley (MO) went after DOE official Jigar Shah,?the head of DOE’s Loan Guarantee program. Their gangbuster revelation (H/T?E&E News)?was: “Mr. Shah has reportedly been a guest speaker [at] at least 10 cleantech-sponsored events, and at these events, if you’re a member of the group that he founded, you get special access to him,” said the Wyoming Republican.? “My concern is this could be the next Solyndra, which was $500 million,” Barrasso said during the hearing, referencing the failed solar company that received a DOE loan during the Obama administration. So... - JIGAR SHAH NETWORKED, LIKE HIS JOB ENTAILS!?HE DID IT ON HIS OWN DIME!?AT AN ORGANIZATION CREATED TO HOST NETWORKING DINNERS FOR CLEAN ENERGY EXECUTIVES!?HE COULD MAKE A BAD LOAN!?THIS IS CORRUPT! Did I miss anything? Barrasso and his House counterpart, Rep. Kathy McMorris Rogers, are now demanding text messages and emails between Shah and the Cleantech Leaders Roundtable (CTLR). The yammering by this Capitol Hill brain trust has been echoed by Kimberly Strassel of The Wall Street Journal, the #fossilfuelbros' reliable errand gal. First, the requisite reality check: Solyndra was a phony non-scandal, for which no one spent time in front of a judge. In fact, the DOE’s loan guarantee program had a 94.6 percent repayment rate in first year after Solyndra’s bankruptcy. In 2012, it returned $30M net to the U.S. Treasury. It now returns half a billion dollars?a year?to taxpayers. But reality doesn’t matter. As a former Senate staff member, I know the odds the brain trust acted on their own are less than me dunking on Lebron James after my recent hip replacement. These attacks fit into a pattern of actions designed to leverage government influence and disinformation to stop you from engaging in capitalism's "creative destruction." Jigar is their focus today, but you could be next. In the clean economy, we’ll either grow together or get picked off one by one. Nothing personal, it’s just what mature industrial sectors do. If you agree, then I respectfully point out that until I pushed back during the last episode of This Week in Cleantech, I didn't see anyone calling nonsense on the brain trust. That doesn’t make me special, but it does mean that I shouldn’t stay the only voice. Yes, I'm both a friend of Jigar's and an early member of CTLR. But we know that silence enables bullies. So, I’m issuing a challenge. Here’s a cartoon poking fun at the brain trust, courtesy of Joe Mohr. Will you repost it to your LinkedIn feed? You don’t have to comment on it or mention me. You can just post it as something that’s of potential interest to your readers. If we got even 10 #cleantechers to post it, that would be a step forward toward collective defense of our shared interests.? What say you??

Understanding the pulse of local residents is vital for starting conversations around renewable energy adoption. Historically, developers have faced limited options: relying on in-house insights or investing in costly opinion surveys. Our friends at Embold Research, led by Robin Pressman, have revolutionized the game with their Dynamic Online Sampling method, making polling more cost-effective. But what about developers with extensive project portfolios seeking a middle ground between on-the-ground intelligence and extensive polling? Enter Robin Laine of Transect, unveiling a new solution – a tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to measure community sentiment. Leveraging both online sources and AI, Transect's community sentiment measurement tool, Solar Pulse, offers a fresh approach to understanding public perspectives. Listen to Robin speak about Solar Pulse: https://lnkd.in/gXdeTb97

Our SVP Melissa Baldwin, recently gathered veteran marketers who were in their first cleantech marcom position. Melissa wanted to know what these folks had observed in their new vs. previous sectors. Here, Brittany Maroney from Transect sheds light on the importance of data-driven storytelling, and how important it is to extract valuable insights that not only uplift a company’s capabilities, but also illustrate broader market trends.
