We must act immediately to resist Project 2025. Here’s what we know right now: Project 2025 will be felt first and hardest at the state and local levels, directly targeting the rights and security of communities of color, LGBTQ+ communities, immigrants, women, and especially everyone at every intersection of these groups. If we can preserve the reach grassroots leaders built during the election cycle, we can build a national movement to resist authoritarianism. Join us:?https://lnkd.in/dw-gVq9P

It's more urgent than ever for philanthropy to stand up for trans communities. This #TransAwarenessWeek, we're resharing these tips from Gabriel Foster of the Trans Justice Funding Project: ????? Fund trans justice organizations working locally as well as nationally. ????? Fund groups with and without 501(c)(3) status — the Trans Justice Funding Project does this by maintaining both a collective action fund at Tides Foundation and a non-charitable trust. ????? Fund groups in the middle — established groups that are too large for some funders but aren’t large enough for others. ????? Remember that trans justice and liberation is also racial justice, migrant justice, economic justice, disability justice, gender justice, and so much more. There were important wins for reproductive justice advocates last night at the state level: ?? The first total abortion ban to be struck down at the ballot box ?? Expanded abortion access for Medicaid recipients and public employees ?? Stronger protections for abortion in state after state after state where grassroots organizers poured everything they had into defending the right to reproductive healthcare. Last night’s successful abortion ballot measures will change and save lives. They showed us what grassroots organizers can accomplish — even as ballot measure losses in Florida and Ohio showed us what they’re up against. Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/duzFvpzQ

BREAKING: Though 57% of voters in Florida voted to strike down the state’s six-week abortion ban, the measure fell short of the 60% needed to pass. Misleading warnings beside the ballot language likely caused this measure to fall short. Tides Foundation’s Healthy Democracy Fund provided $3.2 million to groups in Florida, many of which worked tirelessly to support this measure. None of this work was in vain. The fight for reproductive justice in Florida will not end here.

Reminder: While an official call on election night is always possible, we may have to wait for results. Here's the timeline for when we might know the results of these historically closely contested states: Arizona: 2-4 days post-election Georgia: Election night Michigan: 2-3 days post-election Nevada: Maximum of 4 days post-election North Carolina: Election night or the day after the election Pennsylvania: Friday after the election Wisconsin: Election night or the day after the election Read our blog on what to expect in the week ahead: https://lnkd.in/ea3nvBHE

$200 million to protect democracy. Resources for year-round base-building and organizing in communities that have historically been pushed to the margins. Rapid response funding for post-election crises, litigation related to last-minute voter suppression, and security for grassroots nonprofits. Inside Philanthropy spoke with Tides' Peter Martin and Beth Huang about how Tides Foundation and the Healthy Democracy Fund are shifting resources to close the voter turnout gap for marginalized communities.
