Where does the food on your Thanksgiving table come from? How did it get there? And how can we create better systems in which everyone has access to affordable, healthy food? Tides Foundation partnered with an individual donor to launch the Better Food Policy Fund, a grantmaking initiative working to advance food justice by supporting food policy councils. They made this video to explain how food councils work and how you can get involved. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eebUY6tm

Some reminders as Walmart becomes the latest example of a company succumbing to pressure to roll back inclusive policies: 1) Far from being divisive, multiple research studies have confirmed that DEI matters to people — and they?expect companies and brands to show leadership?on big challenges globally, locally and through the lens of equity and inclusion. 2) DEI and social impact programs?can boost financial performance?by attracting/retaining talent and engaging customers. In fact, research from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) shows that such programs slash employee attrition by 50%. 3) Companies can maintain their corporate impact and DEI initiatives through making a business case that's specific to their stakeholders, impact measurement, and powerful impact narratives. 4) If you're asked to choose between prioritizing your employees and prioritizing extremists, choose your employees.

It's more urgent than ever for philanthropy to stand up for trans communities. This #TransAwarenessWeek, we're resharing these tips from Gabriel Foster of the Trans Justice Funding Project: ????? Fund trans justice organizations working locally as well as nationally. ????? Fund groups with and without 501(c)(3) status — the Trans Justice Funding Project does this by maintaining both a collective action fund at Tides Foundation and a non-charitable trust. ????? Fund groups in the middle — established groups that are too large for some funders but aren’t large enough for others. ????? Remember that trans justice and liberation is also racial justice, migrant justice, economic justice, disability justice, gender justice, and so much more. There were important wins for reproductive justice advocates last night at the state level: ?? The first total abortion ban to be struck down at the ballot box ?? Expanded abortion access for Medicaid recipients and public employees ?? Stronger protections for abortion in state after state after state where grassroots organizers poured everything they had into defending the right to reproductive healthcare. Last night’s successful abortion ballot measures will change and save lives. They showed us what grassroots organizers can accomplish — even as ballot measure losses in Florida and Ohio showed us what they’re up against. Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/duzFvpzQ
