Tidelands Health's successful implementation of Epic, an integrated electronic medical record, was part of a panel discussion at the national Becker’s Healthcare annual meeting and conference earlier this month. Will Johnson, the health system’s chief information officer, served as one of four panelists leading a session focused on electronic health records. Earlier this year, Tidelands Health launched Epic, along with the My Tidelands Health app featuring MyChart and related technologies. “With the successful implementation of Epic, our patients benefit from coordinated care and more streamlined access to their medical information at their fingertips. Implementing Epic has been a game-changer in the delivery of care,” Johnson said. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ekpTsh4F

Tidelands Health offers several programs for students to learn alongside team members and behind the scenes, including a nurse apprenticeship program and job shadowing opportunities. Recently, as part of our popular Nurses are Extraordinary program, 30 high school juniors and seniors from Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties had the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes experience at our hospitals. In addition to a hospital tour, the students learned from hands-on experiences, including swaddling a baby manikin, practicing CPR, donning protective suits used in operating rooms and more. As the exclusive health system partner of the YMCA of Coastal Carolina, Tidelands Health collaborates with the YMCA to improve health and wellness in the region. This summer, Tidelands Health joined camps at the YMCA of Coastal Carolina, offering an interactive session on the importance of proper hand hygiene. During the camp sessions, a special lotion meant to mimic germs on hands could only be seen using a glow light, driving home the message to campers ages 6 to 8 to always wash their hands properly. After washing their hands at the sink to remove the lotion, kids held their hands under the glow light to see any spots they might have missed. "Kids are so visual, they like to see it. It’s a fun, interactive way to drive home the message and help instill healthy habits early in life that will serve these campers well as they grow," said Alisa Kimmel, community outreach registered nurse at Tidelands Health.
