The Mercedes / TIBCO team developed digital twin representations of their F1 cars and their sub-assemblies. This twin helps them simulate, test, and analyze millions of set-up and race scenarios without wasting a gallon of gas. Over 50 parameters about the car configuration, the weather conditions, and driver preferences are used to drive simulations. Simulation results help Mercedes-AMG’s team constantly optimize the car from week to week. TIBCO Spotfire visual analysis helps teams to share insights discovered by track engineers and throughout the organization who can drill down, filter, and run what-if scenarios and trade-offs to identify areas of performance advantage.? Once at the racetrack, the collaboration continues. Simulation data feeds into setting the car up for the practice sessions, qualifying, and race day. As practice sessions unfold, the trackside team responds to changes in weather and incorporates feedback from the drivers. The TIBCO team even developed a custom “concertina” visualization using Spotfire Mods, to analyze cost and value holistically: the car sub-assemblies are shown at a high level with detail in each fold of the concertina to explore the trade-off of value and cost within each sub-assembly.
