The conversation around securing a confident retirement future took center stage at Bloomberg Invest, where TIAA CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett, shared insights with David Gura on the evolving retirement landscape. She emphasized the critical role of lifetime income in helping individuals navigate financial challenges and retire with confidence. At TIAA, we’re committed to driving bold conversations and meaningful action to transform the retirement experience for all.?
At Bloomberg Invest, I had the opportunity to sit down with Bloomberg’s David Gura to discuss one of the most urgent financial challenges of our time: retirement security. Every day more than 11,000 Americans reach retirement age, yet we’re facing a $4 trillion retirement savings gap. In the 1970s, around 70% of private-sector workers had access to a pension. Today, that number is just 12%. As pensions have declined, many Americans are left relying on Social Security—a vital but limited program designed to cover only basic living expenses, not the full cost of retirement. That’s why at TIAA, we’re focused on delivering lifetime income solutions—so people can retire with the confidence, security, and dignity they deserve. The work continues, but I’m inspired by the bold conversations and collaborative spirit we’re fostering to reimagine what retirement can look like for everyone.
