Buttigieg Invests in Accessibility Improvements Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has announced billions in investments to enhance accessibility in U.S. transportation, including $5 billion for airport upgrades and $1 billion for rail transit. Despite this progress, Buttigieg notes that significant work remains. ? The DOT has proposed stricter penalties for airlines mishandling wheelchairs, addressing reports of over 11,500 damaged devices in 2023. The department also aims to improve rail accessibility and set new standards for assisting disabled passengers. ?
