Based in Thurston County, WA, since 1967, TRPC is a public agency dedicated to making our region an extraordinary place to live, work, and play. We do this by collaborating on planning projects ranging from transportation, to growth management, to environmental quality. TRPC is governed by its Council, comprised of elected officials from 23 jurisdictions and organizations from across Thurston County. The Council meets monthly to address topics related to the region's growth and sponsors a variety of community forums relating to regional planning, encouraging public participation in the decision-making process.

Students across the Thurston region use lots of travel methods to get to school. Whether they walk, bike, roll, or ride, safety is the top priority. In 2025, TRPC will start work on a safety action plan that will cover all travel options across the Thurston region. That's what TRPC Executive Director Marc Daily discussed at an OLYMPIA SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Directors meeting last week. "We certainly need school district involvement” on this plan, Daily said. The safety action plan will identify improvements at a regional level, incorporating plans like the City of Olympia's Safe Streets Plan. TRPC has also supported Intercity Transit's Walk N Roll program for many years, helping to increase our community's access to walking, biking, rolling, and riding public transit. TRPC is proposing three more years of funding for the program. Read more from THE JOLT - The Journal of Olympia, Lacey & Tumwater : https://lnkd.in/gi9SFkAn

How will we move around our region in the future? That's the question that local transportation leaders worked together to answer at TRPC's High-Capacity Transportation Visioning Event last week. ? High-capacity transportation (HCT) includes options like buses, vanpools, light rail, and other trains. TRPC was directed by the State Legislature to study the HCT options currently available between Thurston and Pierce counties and what might make sense in the future. ? The results indicate that our region doesn't yet have high enough densities of people or jobs to support options like light rail. At last week's Visioning Event, attendees learned about other options that the region could pursue, like expanding express bus service. ? Attendees heard from a panel of transportation experts representing Intercity Transit, ruralTRANSIT, Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, and Amtrak Cascades. Armed with fresh insights and ideas, attendees brainstormed and then prioritized what our region's next steps should be. ? Discussions focused on: ?? How to support the relationship between land use and transportation ?? Making it easier and more intuitive for community members to use different transportation options ?? The importance of partnerships between agencies and jurisdictions ? TRPC gives many thanks to all who participated in this event! Attendees represented the City of Olympia, the City of Lacey, the City of Tumwater, the Port of Olympia, Thurston County Government, Thurston Economic Development Council, State Rep. Beth Doglio’s staff, and Washington State Department of Transportation. Learn more about TRPC's HCT study here: https://lnkd.in/gxWTqE3Z
