We are terrible bowlers, but we love the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and had a great time at their fundraiser last night. Consider supporting NABJ-MN's efforts to provide scholarships to aspiring journalists in your #GTMD24 generosity today: https://lnkd.in/ggUs_dqk ?? : Sheree R. Curry

Sahan Journal has published two important election-related opinion pieces from our October workshop. Sonia Kharbanda (St. Paul Academy and Summit School) explores the prejudice multiracial Americans like her face: https://lnkd.in/gaZ84hFC Sophia Elmstrom (Highland Park High School) reflects on abortion as life-affirming care: https://lnkd.in/gt4jtrEk

We did it! Our annual Op-Ed Workshop has wrapped with seventeen stories complete. They cover a wide range of topics that affect our students lives and communities: transportation, being multiracial in America, abortion access, the changes at the Minnehaha Dog Park, mental health stigma in Somali community, arts funding in public schools, gender roles in Hmong community and so much more. We'll be sharing published pieces in the weeks to come. We wouldn't have reached the finish line without support from an accomplished team of volunteer editors: Katie Moritz, Marianne Combs, Elza G., Alfonzo Galvan, Tala Kim, Terry Wolkerstorfer, Katelyn Vue, Samantha HoangLong, Kendall Shostak, Trisha Collopy and Zekriah Chaudhry. Go team!

HUGE thanks to our volunteer instructor (April Eichmeier, PhD) and TEN volunteer writing coaches (Katelyn Vue, Madison McVan, Alfonzo Galvan, Jackie Renzetti, Hannah Ihekoronye, Samantha HoangLong, Ayanna Melander, DA Bullock, T McKinley, and Zekriah Chaudhry) who made the second day of our Op-Ed Workshop so engaging and productive this past weekend. By next Saturday, 18 students will have completed written op-eds on topics of their choosing, and some will have recorded their pieces in our podcast studio with Marianne Combs. All student work produced will be considered for publication in Sahan Journal and The Minnesota Star Tribune. Our work is impactful because our community is generously committed!
