#MississippiGateway Construction Update! Construction on the Rush Creek Regional Trail underpass at Mississippi Gateway Regional Park is proceeding rapidly. All pre-cast concrete tunnel sections are installed, as well as a significant portion of the underground storm sewer. West River Road will continue to be closed north of the park entry through November as crews finish the tunnel abutments, backfill and re-pave as quickly as possible. Road and trail detours are posted, and the park remains open to vehicle traffic from the south. Contractors reached a significant milestone by completing the final section of the Treetop Trail's concrete deck. Elsewhere, site preparation and concrete foundations were completed for the South Pond and River Flats shelters. Work continues on all aspects of the Gateway Center. Installation of exterior siding is about half complete and work has begun on concrete sidewalks immediately adjacent to the Gateway Center. Interior gypsum board is complete through most of the building, allowing painting, trim and other interior wall finishes to be installed soon. Finally, the installation of the elevator has begun. At the West Unit, the first application of parking lot pavement and most sections of concrete sidewalk were installed. Crews have cleared the undergrowth in the dog off-leash area and are now working on turf establishment. Lastly, the Rush Creek Regional Trail's gravel base is now complete and the trail will be paved soon. The West Unit will remain closed to the general public despite some portions of the work nearing completion, until it is safe to open free from conflict with construction traffic in the area.
