At Three Rivers Design (TRD), our portfolio is as diverse as the communities we serve. While we take pride in designing extensive, multi-million dollar facilities, we find equal joy in smaller projects that significantly impact the communities and organizations we serve. A collaboration with Senior Services Midland Trailside Facility resulted in the design of an outdoor pavilion that created a meaningful space for gatherings where visitors can relax and engage with one another in a comfortable setting. Strolling across the campus of Northwood University, you might come across sleek, functional kiosks dotting the mall walk or supporting various sporting events. These aren't just information stands; they're beacons of connectivity and campus life, designed to inform, guide, and add to the vibrant campus atmosphere. Senior Services' Sanford Activity & Dining Center's outdoor adult playground is a testament to the importance of wellness and joy at any age. Outdoor workout equipment offers seniors a unique way to stay active, healthy, and connected with nature and each other. These projects may be smaller in scale, but their impact is profound. They reflect our belief that architecture and design should serve everyone, enhancing daily life and strengthening communities. From university kiosks that guide and inform to pavilions that bring people together, each project is a step towards more inclusive, connected, and vibrant communities.

At Three Rivers Design (TRD), we believe master planning is the art of anticipating the future. It's about laying a foundation today while supporting future growth. Master planning allows us to see the bigger picture, ensuring that every aspect of a project—from the site layout to the interior spaces—works in harmony with our client's needs, the environment, and the community. It's a strategic process that ensures: ? Efficiency: Optimizing the use of space and resources. ? Flexibility: Allowing for future growth and changes. ? Sustainability: Designing with the environment in mind. One of our hallmark projects, the design and planning of Shelterhouse's Midland facility, showcases the transformative power of master planning. Working closely with Shelterhouse, we embarked on a journey to create a space that meets their current needs and is ready to evolve with them. The master planning process included the following: ? Site Planning: Collaborating with Shelterhouse, we developed a comprehensive site plan that maximizes the property's potential, ensuring that every inch serves a purpose. ? Block Diagrams to Floor Plans: Starting with block diagrams, we plotted out the spatial relationships and functions, refining these into detailed floor plans that reflect Shelterhouse's operational needs and vision for the future. ? Anticipating Growth: Our design is not just for the here and now. It's a blueprint for Shelterhouse's growth, ensuring that the space can adapt and expand to meet the ever-changing needs of the community it serves. The result is more than a building; it's a future-proof facility that is a testament to what foresight, collaboration, and master planning can achieve. Shelterhouse now operates in a space that enhances its ability to serve, embodying its mission and vision for years to come. Through master planning, we can craft spaces that are functional, beautiful, and adaptable to the future's demands. The Shelterhouse project exemplifies how thoughtful design and strategic planning can create a lasting impact on organizations and the communities they serve.

Earlier this week, we featured Kevin Caress, one of our in-house designers. Today, we're excited to showcase one of the projects he's been heavily involved in—the renovation of DuPont's Larkin Campus in Midland.? ? Our team of architects worked alongside DuPont to bring their design vision to life, ensuring every detail aligned with their goals. The construction team adopted this same commitment and prioritized maintaining the highest levels of safety and quality in the final build. ? Here's a glimpse of this incredible transformation that utilized our Integrated Design-Build approach: ? Phase 1— Larkin 200: The entryway and atrium were transformed to create a stunning welcome to the facility for guests and employees. Corian?, a signature DuPont product, is showcased throughout the reimagined space, including a custom-designed welcome reception desk, a textured backlit logo wall, and various seating and meeting locations throughout the building. Recycled walnut wood panels from Oregon adorn the atrium, adding a natural element to the space. Finally, a new, custom-designed breakroom seating area offers DuPont employees a rejuvenating break experience. ? Phase 2—Larkin 200: The customer service area in Larkin 200 was also completely reimagined to include adaptable cubicle space, new group meeting areas, private focus rooms, and lounge spaces, all lit with new LED lighting. Fresh carpeting and vibrant-colored walls complete the renovation. ? Phase 3—Larkin 100: Moving across DuPont's campus, the design aesthetic from Larkin 200 was applied to this multi-floor work environment to create a cohesive look and feel. The entryway, employee break area, and meeting spaces on the main floor were reimagined and updated. Guests and employees are welcomed to the second floor by a unique mosaic art piece designed in-house, embodying DuPont's commitment to sustainability. The newly established design aesthetic continues throughout the second floor's meeting and workspace areas. We're proud to have played a pivotal role in this venture, merging our architectural design expertise with our commitment to safety and quality.

In our first “Behind the Build” spotlight, we’re thrilled to introduce Kevin Caress, a Designer with Three Rivers Design. Kevin's architectural aspirations were influenced by his father, who aspired to be an architect before his service in the Vietnam War. Observing Kevin's early interest in drawing as a child, his father encouraged him to explore drafting classes, which sparked a lifelong passion. At Three Rivers, Kevin's approach to architecture is deeply client-focused. He believes in understanding and realizing a client's vision, blending aesthetics with functionality to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also purposeful. His work spans diverse styles, from multifamily housing to commercial projects, each reflecting his adaptable and client-driven philosophy. One project that stands out for Kevin across his diverse career is a multifamily development in West Hollywood, California, which allowed him to see his work come full circle – from concept to a functioning community. He finds joy in seeing how people interact with the spaces he creates, especially when he can witness the interaction and appreciation first-hand. Outside of work, Kevin enjoys road trips, whether on his Harley or in a car, embracing the freedom and inspiration from travel. While he doesn't revisit his projects in California, his connection to them is more about knowing how they continue to positively impact communities where he once worked, a testament to his belief in architecture as a community enhancement. Kevin Caress's story is a shining example of passion, adaptability, and client-focused design in every Three Rivers Corporation project. His journey from drafting classes in California to impactful architectural projects in the Great Lakes Bay Region exemplifies the dedication and talent that thrives "Behind the Build."

Miner Hall has stood on Northwood University's campus in Midland since the mid-1960s. Originally an Alden B. Dow design, thousands of students have called Miner Hall home as dormitory space during their time on campus. During the 2020 flooding event, the lower level of Miner Hall was compromised, requiring a renovation to bring it back into working order. Northwood took this opportunity to reimagine the space and create a modern gathering area for the various Student Life organizations that operate on campus. The reimagined lower level includes: ? Sleek, modern meeting spaces perfect for brainstorming, collaborating, or hanging out with friends. ? ? Cozy nooks and crannies for studying, catching up on a good book, or simply taking a relaxing break. ? Open areas for impromptu gatherings and networking with fellow students. This investment in learning, connection, and community will serve current and future students as they shape their college careers at Northwood University.
