We're honored that The New York Times Magazine featured our beloved sea otter, Rosa, among the personalities it included in its annual "The Lives They Lived" section, which recognizes notable deaths during the past year. Rosa had such an enormous impact on millions of visitors and on the recovery of California's threatened sea otter population during her long life. I still get emotional ?? thinking about how much the #WINGSGALA2024 weekend meant to me and Dr. Louise Edwards. Simply put: it changed our lives ??. ???? "Triumphant" is the world I used then to describe the emotion of the moment for me -- not because of what we achieved, but because of the beautiful WINGS family we cultivated through these four days together in NYC. #wingswomenofdiscovery are incredible!!! Aside from their accomplishments in their respective fields -- which are impressive and numerous -- WINGS Women are the most giving and loving people. Every single human in this organization is in it to help, mentor, grow, and collaborate with others. With this mindset, we all rise ????. As a minority, mid-career, non-scientist, untraditional explorer, this kind of recognition and support literally is make-or-break. As Gala emcee Mireya Mayor, PhD put it, through their unrestricted grants, WINGS tells us women, "We get you, and we got you." This allows us to do whatever we need to realize our unique impact. What a powerful gift and mandate ??. I remain floored by the magnitude of generosity and power that this group of humans has, and I will continue to speak these praises for decades to come.
