How can a new multifamily building bridge the gap between an existing smaller-scale neighborhood and future development of a larger scale? Anchoring a unique corner site, this scheme finds a middle ground between the past, present, and future of the neighborhood. Its massing responds to different edges, mediating scales, views, and noise to create a distinctive landmark. A continuous fa?ade addresses the thoroughfare, while a stepped, serrated fa?ade rounds the corner, reflecting and dissipating sound. Celebrating Women in Design & Construction??♀? This week is extra special—it’s Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day tomorrow! We’re proud to recognize the brilliant women at ThoughtCraft whose talent, creativity, and leadership are vital to the team. Here’s to supporting and empowering the women who are shaping the future of our industry! In light of the occasion, we asked TC designer Abby a couple of questions about her experience. What inspired you to pursue a career in architecture? “Since I was young, I always told my family I would design my own house. I insisted I’d draw the plans and build it myself—because I was going to be an architect. Fast forward a few decades, and that dream is coming to fruition (to clarify, the architect part—not the design-my-own-house part... yet). Along the way, I’ve discovered that architecture is so much more than I imagined as a child—or even as a student—but the journey so far has been incredibly rewarding. I feel lucky to be turning my ‘what I want to be when I grow up’ into an exciting career.” What advice would you give to young women looking to enter the AEC industry? “Confidence and persistence are key in this business. Don’t be afraid to speak up and share your ideas. Your perspective is valuable, and any inclusive workplace will recognize that. I am fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful colleagues and mentors; their trust in me has accelerated my growth and broadened my experience in ways I didn’t expect this early in my career. And connect with other women in your network!
