Last month, visitors along Savannah's River Street were entertained by the spectacular delivery of new container cranes via the Savannah River. These cranes, among the largest on the Eastern US coast, are part of the ongoing expansion at the Georgia Port Authority's Ocean Terminal. We're proud to supply the concrete for the new container ship terminals, which will enhance the port's loading and unloading capabilities. The recently installed rails, embedded in our concrete, will support these giant cranes as they play their part in improving Georgia's supply chain infrastructure. Georgia Ports Authority

🌎 Stormwater Management and Water Recycling at Thomas Concrete ♻️ This week, we highlight our strategic approaches to stormwater management. At Thomas Concrete, we’re dedicated to recycling and effectively using water across our operations, significantly minimizing our environmental impact. 🌊 Settling Basins and Recycling Initiatives: Our systems include sedimentation controls that effectively capture and contain runoff, preventing contaminants from reaching local water bodies and supporting cleaner ecosystems. 🚰 Recycled Water Ponds: Essential for our daily operations, these ponds are central to our sustainable water management practices, helping to conserve natural resources and reduce environmental footprints. 🚿 Recycled Water Use: More than half of the water utilized in our concrete batching and drum washing processes is recycled. This practice not only conserves resources but also reduces discharge volumes, thereby preventing pollutants from contaminating local water systems. 🌱 Wastewater Treatment: Our advanced treatment processes involve pH adjustment with carbon dioxide and thorough filtration, ensuring that process water is purified before it is safely released back into the environment. 💧 Extra Water Storage: Retention ponds are crucial for managing excess water, helping to control stormwater at the plant level and ensuring that our operations are sustainable. 🚚 Transporting Processed Water: Our water tankers transport process water between facilities, optimizing resource use and enhancing our overall water management strategy. 👉 Swipe through to explore the various features of our water management systems – from recycled water ponds to advanced filtration processes. See how each component plays an important role in our sustainability efforts.

🌎 Commitment to the Environment 🌎 At Thomas Concrete, environmental responsibility isn’t just a requirement, it’s how we do business. Last October, we had the privilege of hosting an EPA inspector training at our Athens, GA plant in partnership with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). This training provided inspectors with hands-on experience in stormwater management, water sampling, and compliance procedures while offering them the opportunity to learn more about concrete production. Throughout February, we’ll be sharing insights into how Thomas Concrete prioritizes sustainability, water conservation, air quality, and waste reduction across our operations. From advanced water recycling systems to our commitment to ISO 14001 standards, we take every step to reduce our environmental impact and build a greener future. 📸 Swipe through the photos to see highlights from the training and a behind-the-scenes look at our Athens plant.

🌎 Team Thomas attended World of Concrete this week and had the unique opportunity to stand in front of our future - literally - as we visited the display of our newest plant in the exhibition hall. This event provided a valuable platform to engage with customers and vendors and discuss how we can work together toward our shared goal of innovation in the industry. As a touching tribute, a ribbon adorned the plant in loving memory of our dear teammate, Brian Senter. #WOC2025 Vince Hagan Company - Concrete Batching Equipment

🧊 Foundation Innovation : Liquid Nitrogen at 1072 West Peachtree 🏗️ For the foundational mass pour at 1072 West Peachtree, we took an innovative approach by integrating liquid nitrogen into the process. Why focus on the foundation? In large-scale projects like this, the foundation’s structural integrity is paramount, and managing the heat generated during the concrete curing process is critical. When large quantities of concrete cure, they naturally generate heat due to the exothermic reaction of cement hydration. If this heat isn’t controlled, it can lead to thermal cracking, where differences in temperature within the concrete cause it to expand and contract unevenly. This is particularly crucial in a mass pour where the volume of concrete is extensive. By using liquid nitrogen, we can lower the concrete’s temperature before pouring, significantly reducing the risk of thermal cracking. This precise temperature control ensures that the foundation cures uniformly, achieving maximum strength and durability, which is vital for the stability and longevity of the entire structure. This video gives a glimpse into how we treated the aggregates with liquid nitrogen right on the conveyor belt before mixing. At Thomas Concrete, we are committed to quality and innovation, ensuring that even the most challenging aspects of construction meet the highest standards of safety and performance. #ThomasConcrete #ConcreteTechnology #InnovativeConstruction
