Considering taking your film production overseas and international? Then you'll want to give this a read. We dig into the good, the bad, and the très mal (very bad) of shooting internationally. Well, mostly helping understand the good and the bad so you can avoid the very bad if you're committed to an internationally produced film or TV show. We touch on: ? Value for money ? Union considerations, or the lack thereof? ? Unified incentive structure and labor laws ? Using foreign stand-ins for domestic locations? ? Considering travel time for your cast ? Understanding international payroll companies ? Being ready for cultural differences ? ...and not overlooking the still-present benefits of shooting in the US. At the end of the day, wherever you end up shooting, the goal is always about unlocking the best potential in telling incredible stories and bringing them to life. Thanks and appreciation to Alex Lewis at TPH Global Payroll and Accounting Solutions and Producer Ron Cohen for contributing their insights. ?? #filmmaking #film #production #movies

I'll see you at The 4:30 Movie. Out today and directed by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot), The 4:30 Movie is a coming-of-age story set in the summer of 1986 that follows three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local cineplex. "When one of the guys invites the girl of his dreams to see an R-rated film, all hilarity breaks loose, as a self-important theater manager (Ken Jeong) and teen rivalries interfere with his best-laid plans. Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Jason Biggs, and more contribute outrageous characters to this poignant comic valentine to moviegoing and the youth of the ’80s." - Kevin Smith Starring Ken Jeong, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Jason Biggs. Heads up that Hawaii is changing its GET policy. If you've got a production in Hawaii and are working with a payroll service company processing payroll as the EOR on behalf of the production company, this change will have a direct impact. Though if you are with GreenSlate as your payroll provider, you do have options. ? Clients who utilize GreenSlate’s Agency payroll processing model (where the Production Company remains the EOR) will NOT be subject to this change and will continue to pay only the 4.5% GET on GreenSlate’s handling fees.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10th and on Netflix on November 22nd, 'The Piano Lesson' is Malcolm Washington's directorial debut that brings August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize–winning play to the screen. "It’s 1936, and Boy Willie (John David Washington) wants to sell the piano to buy the land his ancestors were enslaved upon. His sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) is fiercely protective of it, even though she never plays it. Their uncle Doaker (Samuel L. Jackson) tries to keep the peace as 'The Piano Lesson' finds levity in this sibling confrontation before the family is troubled by a more serious shadow that hangs over their heads. A ghost descends on their home and Boy Willie gives Berniece an ultimatum that she is too scared to face." (Source: TIFF https://lnkd.in/ejKDXN4B) ??? Entertainment payroll is evolving and will change in some exciting ways. How so? I share my thoughts on: ?? How technology is allowing accountants to better manage the demands of production. Whether they’re remote or on location, they will be increasingly able to use their team’s time to contribute in the most valuable ways to promote and support production accountants in analyzing the numbers or doing cost projections for their producers. ?? Why the increasing importance of cost savings will only accelerate. ?? The role AI might play in production finance data entry, but without replacing the human element. ?? And on how the implementation of geolocation has the potential to reduce possible consternation and even contention at times when it comes to timecards, digital or otherwise.
