Let's talk about what happened on Valentine's Day :) https://lnkd.in/gW6uQwzq
Yesterday I spoke about Umber (publicly) for the first time in 4 years at CreativeMornings/ Oakland at Mama Dog Studios. It was beautiful and healing to talk about the journey and future of Umber. I'm still processing the moment but I'm thankful to have shared space with friends, peers and the Bay Area community. I left feeling encouraged and empowered to keep doing what I'm doing. As I'm building out the infrastructure and operations for Umber's media footprint I'm proud to uplift another touch point... Umber Studio. Led by me and a talented team of designers, media producers, and writers, we offer a curated range of creative services rooted in our commitment to culture-building, collectivity, and impactful storytelling. We're here to collaborate, define and amplify – bringing your vision to life. Learn more by visiting https://lnkd.in/gA65Db3X

Hey all, This is Mike Nicholls, and I’m excited to connect with you in 2025.?As the founder and now?CEO, I’m relaunching?Umber?as a media platform, evolving from the print magazine I began in 2017.?Our mission remains to amplify and highlight the creative perspectives of Black American, Indigenous, Latin American, African, Asian, Arabic, Pacific Islander, and other communities of color.?Umber?will focus on art, design, music, and cultural discovery—authentically documenting and sharing the worldviews of dynamic individuals through online content, in-person experiences, and print media. I believe that there is a problem with media; whether it’s online, TV, print and social media. The perspectives and culture of Black communities and people of color are segmented from an exploitive and extractive lens creating unnecessary division in our narratives. Most media companies, lacking our lived experiences, selectively tell stories that fail to reflect our full spectrum. Those seeking nuanced stories reflecting our worldview must sift through different media channels to find our true selves, yet we rarely own the narratives featured on their platforms. The Joy of Agitation: Dive into the world of Amos Kennedy Jr., where ink, paper, and 35 years of bold printmaking invite us to embrace imperfection. Learn how his ‘Citizen Printer’ philosophy uses letterpress to empower, provoke, and inspire. From the Letterform Archive in San Francisco: A candid conversation with Amos reveals how raw aesthetics, ‘bad printing,’ and a fearless approach to PRINT can spark social transformation.
