Sankofa Wellness Village broke ground!!! Architecture Design Collaboration with Moody Nolan Third Entity Team member: Moriah Adam, Steven Karvelius, AIA, Lynsey Sorrell.

K+P Advisory, LLC was thrilled to attend the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for the Sankofa Wellness Village, a transformative new hub for health and community services in West Garfield Park neighborhood. Situated at 4305 W. Madison St, this state-of-the-art facility will encompass three stories and 55,000 square feet of innovative space. The Garfield Park Rite to Wellness Collaborative (GPRWC), formed by dedicated community stakeholders, aims to address the various conditions affecting the economic, physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being of West Garfield Park residents. The Sankofa Wellness Center will serve as a vital anchor for the community, providing essential, interconnected services along the Madison and Pulaski corridor. Its diverse offerings are designed to uplift and empower residents, enhancing access to critical resources while fostering a sense of belonging and unity. The facility will host clinics from Erie Family Health Centers and Rush University Medical Center, responding to a pressing need highlighted by a recent study that revealed life expectancy in Garfield Park is more than 15 years shorter than in other areas of Chicago. Beyond comprehensive healthcare, the Sankofa Wellness Center will also be home to a new West Garfield Park YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, creating spaces for community members to learn, grow, and thrive. Additional features will include a café, fitness facilities, a gymnasium, childcare services, and programs focused on workforce development, financial education, and more. Designed by the esteemed firms of Moody Nolan and Third Entity , the Wellness Center will be constructed by the partnership of Leopardo Construction and UJAMAA Construction JV. Completion is anticipated in 2025. The Community Builders, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to building and sustaining strong communities, is proud to serve as the developer for this project. It was an AMAZING day! So grateful to all of the amazing partners of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago and West Garfield Park residents with whom we’ve joined to help create magic at the future Sankofa Wellness Village. The groundbreaking on Monday represents years of work and I’m so incredibly proud to be a board member of the Garfield Park Rite To Wellness Collaborative that is bringing this project home. Thank you to the Pritzker Traubert Foundation for supporting this catalytic project through the $10 million Chicago Prize! And to all of our supporters including the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, and many other private funders who are making this concept a reality - we are so grateful!
