On Sunday, October 27th, New Yorker's gathered at NYC AIDS Memorial to hear the acclaimed Mivos Quartet play Philip Glass'?String Quartet No. 4, the composer's ode to queer artist Brian Buczak. The quartet was commissioned?by Buczak's partner, artist Geoffrey Hendricks, a long?time friend?of Glass and influential cultural figure in his own right. The history behind music itself tells a fascinating story about New York's cultural?and artistic scene, and the devastating impact of the AIDS crisis: Buczak passed from AIDS related illness on July 4th, 1987, two years before the premier of Glass' tribute to the artist. Read more about the quartet in Joshua Barone's article in The New York Times
