“The system is rigged” mindset is not going anywhere. It’s time to start—or double down on—engaging with it. Whether we’re talking about the healthcare system, the legal system, the economic system, racial justice, the economy, or any other social issue, people widely rely on this way of thinking to draw all kinds of conclusions. Some productive, and lead to productive critiques of power. Some harmful, and lead to the scapegoating or villainizing of entire groups of people. Our research shows that how we frame these conversations makes a big difference in terms of the stories people tell about what’s going wrong, and what can be done to fix it. In our latest video series on YouTube and Instagram, we explore how the mindset works, the opportunities and dangers it poses, and how progressives can shape what it means to say that “the system is rigged” in our society. These tips can help you navigate conversations about rigged systems, reduce fatalism, and remind people that systemic change is possible. The contest over this narrative might be the most important cultural and political terrain of our time. Let’s keep talking about it. WATCH THE VIDEO SERIES HERE: https://lnkd.in/e9uk2rEn

Bringing advocates together across issue silos, to think big, learn together and share narrative strategies.
关于我们
The Think Big Alliance seeks to win the heart, mind and soul of America by collaborating across the progressive narrative ecosystem to leverage knowledge and make meaning out of disparate research, strategic and organizing efforts. Rather than silo narrative strategies by issue areas, Think Big focuses on the cross-cutting ideas that influence public opinion across policies and campaigns - for example, austerity, abundance, individualism, deservingness, identity, democracy, parental rights, and freedom. In this way, we believe that progressive advocates and communicators can win in the short term, while laying the groundwork for lasting paradigm shifts in Americans’ worldviews–making future fights more winnable. Together, we work toward powerful, cohesive strategies that unify and excite advocates, organizers, communicators and strategists. This year, we’re launching a new research tool that helps us understand the underlying stories that represent people’s most closely held beliefs. Unlike existing tracking surveys, the Deep Story Survey System captures not just what audiences say they want, but how they make meaning through the stories they consume. Using dehumanizing language to describe certain groups of people can perpetuate stigma and stoke fear and division against them. But simple shifts can make a big impact in the way we talk and think about systemic reform. By adjusting our language, we can help emphasize the humanity of those impacted by the criminal justice and immigration systems and advocate for fair solutions.
