The New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH) presented its annual Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Affordable Housing Development last week. We recently completed the creation of a Game Arts Studio for Pratt Institute. A great article in Fast Company's Design section about the new GMDC Brownsville Industrial Center and Bridge Rockaway apartments. The site, which was once the U-Bet Chocolate Syrup factory (a key ingredient in the New York City egg cream fountain beverage), is the first development in NYC to co-locate workspaces for independent makers with affordable housing units. The Partnership Fund was proud to invest in this one-of-a-kind project bringing new jobs and new homes to this community in Brooklyn. Yesterday, the ribbon cutting ceremony took place at 203 Newport Street in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The first of its kind in New York City, the project co-locates affordable housing with light manufacturing workshops. Designed by Think!, this remarkable project is a collaborative effort involving The Bridge, Mega Development Inc. and Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center (GMDC) providing 174 affordable and supportive housing units. They are accommodated in two residential buildings of 5 and 6 stories flanking a 14,000 square foot landscaped courtyard and set above a shared single-story podium. The podium houses 40,000 sq ft light manufacturing workshop space for local start-up companies. https://lnkd.in/eAYvGSrs

Betances Family Apartments designed by Think! for Lemle & Wolff, Alembic Community Development and The Bridge recently opened offering 101 deeply affordable homes in Mott Haven, Bronx. After completing Myrtle Hall, Think! was commissioned to transform Pratt Institute's existing store into a state-of-the-art Film and Video Department. As students head off and back to college, a throwback to our first project for Pratt Institute, the renowned arts and design college. The 120,000 sq ft Myrtle Hall houses 12 departments and was the first institutional building in Brooklyn to achieve a LEED Gold certification. https://lnkd.in/ehfNd29X
