For months, organizations, stakeholders, have been preparing for any potential fallout from the results of the 2024 Election, including the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights. With Donald Trump officially declared the winner, the lives of immigrant families, children, and youth are now in the balance and we can anticipate an escalated and unprecedented assault on the basic human rights of refugees, asylum seekers, undocumented immigrants, as well those who have already obtained legal status. Join us on November 21 at 1 PM ET for a webinar where we will unpack the results of the election, what they mean for immigrant families, children, and youth, and how the Young Center will continue to keep children safe, free, and in community, despite the challenges ahead. 关于我们
The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advocate for the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children. Guided by the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and state and federal child protection laws, the Young Center has developed the only program in the nation that provides guardians ad litem (Child Advocates) for trafficking victims and unaccompanied immigrant children. Our work serving individual children drives our policy work. Through our work as Child Advocates (guardians ad litem), we promote change by advocating for the best interests of individual immigrant children, thereby educating stakeholders about the importance of considering the ‘Respondent’ as a child. Child Advocates are bilingual and often bicultural volunteers who are trained and supervised by attorneys with experience in children’s rights and immigration law. In every case assigned a Child Advocate, the Young Center provides the child’s attorney (if they are represented) and the decision-maker with a report about the best interests of that individual child.

The next four years will not be easy, but as the Young Center, we have been here before and are no strangers to fighting back against President Trump's cruel and extreme anti-immigrant policies. We will not give up, we will continue to fight back and protect those who need us most, because that is what immigrant children, and their families deserve. We did it! With the support from our Waymakers, we were able to raise over $39,285.00 for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children. ? This shows what we can do when we come together. Step by step, we can build a better, more inclusive world for immigrant children, youth, families and their communities. ? We are incredibly grateful to all the 318 participants that formed 28 teams, as well as our sponsors, staff, and volunteers who came out during the month of September to walk with Joaquin, Kolya, and Yesenia on their journeys to the United States. ? Collectively, we walked 13,358 miles across 28 states and 3 countries. Each step of every mile logged made an incredible difference in uplifting their stories and in honoring Elizabeth Frankel's legacy. ? The journey doesn't end in September. You can #BeAWaymaker throughout the year by becoming a Champion for Children by making a sustaining gift. Visit: https://lnkd.in/eZWU66de

Last week, the Young Center was in #ElPaso,?#Texas?"Unlearning Our Borders" at our All-Staff Conference. Our 100-plus strong team (Board of Directors included) came together for two days for a series of intensive, interdiscplinary discussions around the well-being and self-determination of the immigrant and youth we serve. In case you can't tell, we were incredibly excited to be together, strategizing how to better amplify the voices of children in our work while upholding their rights and individuality. You can catch the recaps on our Instagram and TikTok!

--- Meet Rolando, an artist and also one of the young people we work with at the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights. Originally from Guatemala and only 17 years old, Rolando traveled alone to the United States with the dream of helping his family and seeing the world. Now, at 18 years old and living in Chicago, Rolando is focused on building his future: he dreams of becoming an engineer, and while waiting for his work visa, he is working to obtain his GED. We are very proud to be a part of his journey.
