I thought leaders struggling with imposter syndrome stressors only affected themselves and their teams (which is bad enough) Then I saw HR being pulled into the struggle too When leaders grapple with imposter syndrome, the impact ripples throughout the organization in tangible and intangible ways. Increased complaints about management styles A souring culture on some teams that can spread further Reduced productivity and higher turnover HR teams often bear the unseen weight, managing the fallout from behaviors like micromanagement, indecision, or a reluctance to delegate. Supporting these leaders becomes emotionally and mentally draining. Here are some ways HR leaders can navigate this challenge: ?? Recognize triggers by identifying signs of self-doubt early. ?? Coach with empathy to build trust and address their inner critic. ?? Focus on growth by framing confidence-building as leadership development. PS: Is coaching imposter syndrome already a part of your HR strategy? Yes or No?

I remember thinking asking questions in meetings showed weakness Once I learned how to be genuinely, yet strategically show curiosity I now know it’s true value and strength. Asking others for their perspective doesn’t undermine authority; It strengthens it. By inviting colleagues to share their processes you build mutual respect and often uncover solutions you hadn’t considered. ?? Practical approach: - Open with “Can you walk me through your process?” - Use phrases like “I’d love to hear your thoughts.” - Recognize insights publicly to reinforce team value. P.S.: Do you regularly ask others for input?
-
I used to focus only on ‘now’—until I became a Global Director. Moving into executive roles means shifting from day-to-day details to long-term vision. Leaders often struggle to delegate daily tasks because it feels “easier to just do it ourselves.” But trust your team—developing their skills enables you to focus on strategy. ?? Actionable tips: - Define growth and development as team priorities. - Schedule weekly “big-picture” reviews to stay on track. - Delegate day-to-day tasks, freeing you to lead. P.S.: How often do you work on the bigger picture?
-
I used to think trust came with the title—now I know it’s earned. Building trust requires consistent, small efforts. As leaders, we sometimes assume our role alone earns trust. But it’s actually earned by asking questions, engaging in open dialogue, and creating an environment where voices are valued. ?? Try these steps: - Ask team members for their “process” on big decisions. - Share your own thought process, inviting insights. - Align actions with words to build credibility. P.S.: How often do you check in with your team’s insights?

I was finding harder to tell if I was making a difference When I needed a confidence boost I started tracking my wins Logging wins isn’t just about remembering successes It’s about reinforcing confidence and dismantling imposter syndrome Keeping a log is simple but powerful Here’s how it works: ?? Record Every Win, Big or Small Whether it’s landing a new client, nailing a tough meeting, or showing up on a hard day, write it down Wins are wins—period ? Set a Reminder to Log Weekly A consistent log gives you a clear track record to revisit Set a reminder every Friday to capture each week’s highlights ??Use Your Log as a Reality Check Self-doubt hits hard when we forget past achievements Having a list of wins reminds you that, yes, you’re making real progress ?? Review It Monthly to Fuel Motivation Confidence isn’t about what you “might” accomplish; It’s about seeing real, measurable proof of what you’ve already achieved ?? Celebrate—Even the Small Wins Progress builds over time. Celebrating reinforces resilience, and resilience creates leaders who don’t give up ?? Tracking wins isn’t just keeping score; it’s proof that you’re growing. ?? Encourage the leaders you support to keep a log also. If they ever doubt themselves, they’ll have a powerful tool to rebuild confidence on any tough day. Have you started your own achievement log yet? Give it a try and see what it does for your confidence.

Ever notice how isolation at work deepens self-doubt? Isolation feels like silence, but it has a voice. Missed invites, overlooked input, and lonely projects can turn even confident leaders into their own harshest critics. Here’s how I see isolation at work quietly turning into a loop of self-doubt for leaders: ? Self-Criticism Takes Over Without real feedback, assumptions fill the void. When no one’s in their corner, leaders start wondering if their contributions lack value. ? Reality Gets Distorted Isolated leaders begin to misinterpret silence as judgment. Small setbacks feel monumental, and confidence shrinks under the weight of unchallenged self-doubt. ? Fear of Exposing Weaknesses They fear they’ll be seen as “not enough.” The more isolated a leader feels, the harder it is to ask for feedback or admit struggles. ? Growth Stalls Without trusted connections, isolated leaders hold back. Confidence dips, and ambition fades, creating a cycle that keeps them from reaching their potential. Isolation is a career’s quiet undoing. It doesn’t just limit growth—it chips away at self-belief. “The quickest way to strengthen a leader is to surround them with a community of trusted voices.” If you’re seeing leaders struggle, it’s time to ask: How many could thrive with the right support?

September of 2023 my son and I were in DC and went to the MLK Monument late on a Sunday afternoon. It was just us for a while, peacefully quiet and time for reflection. I always am appreciative and humbled when I visit the MLK Monument and read his words on the walls and absorb their meaning. When I consider my favorite quote "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in times of comfort and convenience but where he stands in times of conflict and controversy." it strengthens my resolve to work to create equitable spaces for leaders, emphasize inclusion and create spaces for diversity to be celebrated, not castigated. I deserve that. You deserve that. We all deserve that.

Over the span of my career working for and with organizations of all size, shape and industry, there are a few keys that have been factors that I consistently would see.. Often the issues were complex, but the solutions were fairly easy. And I use the same 5 basic techniques every time: 1: Joint Engagement Analysis How it works: → Conduct a comprehensive survey to understand employee sentiment → Identify areas that need improvement → Formulate a custom engagement strategy based on the data This simple technique allows you to tailor your approach to better suit your team. 2: Mentorship Program How it works: → Pair seasoned leaders with managers → Promote leadership development → Enhance managerial engagement This simple technique allows you to cultivate a culture of continuous learning. 3: Customized Leadership Workshops How it works: → Tap into expert knowledge → Create and facilitate interactive leadership workshops → Design the workshops to meet the needs identified in the engagement analysis This simple technique allows you to upskill your leaders to better engage and motivate your team. 4: Data-Driven Approach How it works: → Implement the steps and strategies based on the data gathered → Enrich the employee experience → Align with your leadership style This simple technique allows you to make informed decisions and drive results. 5: Empathetic, Results-Focused Leadership Style How it works: → Build on your existing leadership style → Enhance it with data-driven methods → Engage and retain your employees This simple technique allows you to foster an environment that encourages both productivity and satisfaction.
