关于我们

The Therapy Group exists to walk beside you as you navigate life’s challenges. We will work together to help you strengthen your own well-being and relationships so that you may find happiness, contentment and balance in all aspects of your life. We believe that the key to success in therapy is fostering real and genuine connection with our clients. This belief powers how we approach our practice, starting with how we match new clients with a therapist. We first work to understand your challenges, background and personality so we can thoughtfully recommend a therapist who will be able to support you fully in your journey to building a deeper connection with yourself and others. The Therapy Group is a knowledgeable team of systemically trained, independently practicing women and men who value creating meaningful connection with others. Leveraging both in-person and virtual therapy, our team of therapists are dedicated to helping clients overcome challenges and strengthen their quality of life. Our team specializes in a variety of areas within individual, family, relationship and sex therapy so we can help clients wherever they may be in their life — both today and in the future. The Therapy Group employs a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic approach working to foster a strong relationship with each of our clients. As systemically trained therapists, we are able to effectively assess the circular nature of interactions and look at each individual as part of a larger system — whether that be a family, school, workplace or community. We recognize that many of life’s challenges result from interactions with others, and in order to resolve these conflicts, it’s important for us to fully understand the role we play within it. Because of that, our therapists help clients look inward to better assess and understand the interaction and then work to develop solutions for moving forward.

This week’s “Business Spotlight” is The Therapy Group, located at 101 E Chestnut Street. ?? We spoke with the owners, Emmalee Bierly, LMFT & Jennifer Chaiken, LMFT, to get the inside scoop. 1. Tell me about your business and what makes it unique. The Therapy Group is a collective of warm, authentic therapists. We built the Therapy Group out of our own experiences in therapy that felt too clinical and disingenuous. It’s our belief that therapy can be productive and effective without feeling clinical, and we work to provide a therapeutic environment that is warm, inviting, and authentic. Above all, we work to connect with our clients on a deep level because we know that through connection, lasting, beautiful change can occur. 2. What services or products do you offer? The Therapy Group offers individual, relationship, family, and sex therapy. Our therapists specialize in a number of areas including but not limited to grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, infidelity, work & career concerns, infertility, intimacy, self-worth, pre-marital counseling, and divorce. 3. How long have you been in business? 10 years! 4. What do you love most about being located in West Chester? West Chester is unlike any place else! It has the most vibrant community and we truly don’t think our business would be where it is now if we didn’t start out in West Chester. The people, the community, the downtown; it’s such a privilege to be able to help and support our clients here! 5. What can you tell me about the culture or atmosphere of your business? At The Therapy Group, we understand that going to therapy can sometimes be overwhelming. We work to make your experience as comfortable and as welcoming as possible. We want every client who walks through our doors to feel supported and cared for as they work towards growth and healing. Each of our clinicians are warm, caring, down to earth and are dedicated to helping you reach your goals. 6. Is there anything else you would like to share about your business? We have therapists with immediate availability! All of our therapists offer free, 10-15 minute phone consultations to help ensure they feel like a good fit for what you’re looking for before scheduling an initial session. Learn more about us at www.thetherapygroup.com and follow us on social media at @thetherapygroup!

One of our co-founders, Jennifer Chaiken, LMFT, is featured in this very timely HuffPost article, 6 Signs Your Perfectionism is Ruining Your Trip. "... perfectionism can give you a false sense of control and 'a level of rigidity,'?she added. Perfectionists?may feel like a 'perfectly planned' vacation — with tours, meals and outings arranged down to the minute — will mean that nothing can go wrong, but this certainly isn’t the case. 'In reality, as we know, nothing is perfect and there is so much that is out of our control,' Chaiken said." Part of self-care is also being in touch with your emotions and being able to boundary them off to know what is yours to carry vs. what’s someone else’s. We cannot be there for others if we are not there for ourselves ??

?? New Blog Post: Why Do I Feel Sad in the Summer? 6 Reasons Why the Sunniest Season Can Sometimes Bring Sadness When we think of summer, we often imagine sunny beaches, outdoor adventures, and carefree vacations. However, for some, the warmest season can bring unexpected feelings of sadness, anxiety, and even depression. Check out The Therapy Group's latest blog post: "Why Do I Feel Sad in the Summer? 6 Reasons Why the Sunniest Season Can Sometimes Bring Sadness." 1. The pressure to have fun: Social media and advertisements create overwhelming expectations to have the perfect summer, leading to feelings of inadequacy. 2. Disruption of routine: Summer breaks and vacations can disrupt daily schedules, causing anxiety and making it hard to maintain healthy habits. 3. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Less recognized in summer, this can be triggered by excessive heat and long daylight hours, affecting mood and sleep. 4. Body image issues: Summer fashion and the cultural emphasis on the "perfect summer body" can heighten self-consciousness and negative self-esteem. 5. Financial stress: The cost of summer activities can cause significant financial stress, especially for those already facing economic hardships. 6. Social isolation: Despite being a time for socializing, not everyone has a strong network, leading to feelings of loneliness and isolation. Understanding these factors is the first step towards supporting those who struggle during the warmer months. Learn about coping strategies and more in the full blog post! ?? Last Sunday we had the incredible opportunity of hosting a workshop at the Be Well Philly Fest where we worked on cultivating self-exploration and self-love through mindful and active journaling. We were humbled by the amount of vulnerability in the room as our wonderful participants opened themselves up to looking at the most intimate parts of themselves in such a short period of time. Thank you so much to everyone who came to the workshop and took the time to know yourselves, and grow yourselves. ??
