?? Exciting insights just published in Harvard Business Review! ?? We dove into the results of a significant hybrid work experiment conducted at Trip.com, involving 1,600 graduate employees across marketing, finance, accounting, and engineering. This study compared a 5-day in-office model with a hybrid approach of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home, analyzing two years of data. Key Findings: 1?? No significant differences in productivity, performance reviews, promotions, learning, or innovation between hybrid and fully in-office models. 2?? The hybrid model resulted in higher employee satisfaction and a remarkable 35% reduction in attrition rates, particularly among female employees. Managerial Takeaways: Strong Performance Management: Implementing an effective performance management system is essential. Trip.com conducted extensive performance reviews every six months to empower managers and reduce micromanagement. Coordinated In-Office Days: Scheduling in-office days at the team or company level can enhance productivity and morale. Trip.com successfully established WFH days on Wednesdays and Fridays to avoid empty offices filled with Zoom calls. Leadership Support: Buy-in from leadership is crucial for successful hybrid implementation. At Trip.com, the CEO and executive team actively support the hybrid policy. A/B Testing Policies: Testing new policies can lead to unexpected benefits. Trip.com discovered that the hybrid model not only improved employee satisfaction but also significantly increased profitability by reducing costly turnover. These insights highlight how thoughtful hybrid work strategies can drive success in today’s evolving work environment. The right reference can make all the difference in landing your next job—but only if you choose wisely and approach them the right way. Here’s what you need to know. Selecting a reference is more than just a formality; it’s a strategic part of the job hunt. The right reference can tip the scales in your favor, especially when a hiring manager is deciding between you and another candidate. But how do you choose the best person, and what’s the right way to ask? When considering references, quality trumps status. It’s better to have a direct supervisor who knows your work well than a high-profile name who doesn’t. As Kathleen Davis from Fast Company notes, “It’s more important to have your direct supervisor than the CEO, or a professor who graded four of your papers rather than a Nobel Prize winner who lectured at your school. The reference is about you—not about how impressive your recommender is.” Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Aim to have a few potential references in mind, not just one. Even if your top choice agrees, they might not be able to speak to every skill you want to highlight. And if you’re applying for multiple roles, you don’t want to exhaust their goodwill by repeatedly asking for feedback.
