  • Sad to say but today is the last day of #BlackHistoryMonth but we celebrate Black History every day so no fear. We will be here. Have you heard of Black Girl Nerds, LLC publication? It's an online publication that intersects geek culture with Black feminism. Founded by Jamie Broadnax in 2012 fixated on creating a space where Black women could thrive in geek culture. The platform provides reviews, critiques, and commentary on sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, gaming, and tech—industries that have historically sidelined Black voices. The Black Girl Nerds (BGN) podcast, is an extension of the Black Girl Nerds online community. Hosted Broadnax, the podcast delves into topics ranging from pop culture and technology to entertainment, all through the lens of Black feminism. Today we're giving her the flowers she deserved for representing. #blackmediamatters #BlackHistoryMonth #blacktech #blackexcellence #blackgirlnerds

  • 4 More Days to Celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth and our LOVE for #BlackMedia. Before the Michigan Chronicle and The Chicago Defender and New Amsterdam there was The Afro American Ledger, founded back in 1892 by John Henry Murphy Sr., - yes! a former slave, when three Black church publications combined their readership: The Sunday School Helper, The Ledger, and The Afro-American. With $200 borrowed from his wife, Murphy took it from a one-page church pamphlet to an influential Black-owned voice in publishing by 1922. His son Carl Murphy, took a leadership role by employing figures like Langston Hughes and Romare Bearden. The Afro-American Ledger campaigned against segregation, lynching, and unequal pay. Today, it is still ran the Murphy family’s fourth and fifth generations. https://afro.com/

  • Let's keep going. Only 8 more days to go to honor the Black Magazines and Newspapers that helped to mold my career. Today, we celebrate The Atlanta Voice, founded in 1966, serving as a voice for Atlanta’s Black community. The paper’s current publisher, Janis L. Ware, carries on the legacy of her late father, J. Lowell Ware, a visionary dedicated to the Black press. Under her leadership, the Atlanta Voice has not only modernized the publication but has also nurtured countless journalists, myself included. Publishing my article on my life in Johannesburg, South Africa, was a pivotal moment in my freelance career. Through the Atlanta Voice, my story reached a wider audience, validating my experiences. https://lnkd.in/gxKzNSKc
