Meet Ahajanay Bolden, a 2022 graduate of our CMT program. Ahajanay graduated from Soma in December of 2022 as her class’s Valedictorian and with President's Honors. Her success since graduating has far exceeded her expectations. After graduation, she moved to North Carolina and began working at a spa. A month ago, she opened her own business, Bethel Bliss Health & Wellness, combining her massage therapy license, her esthetician license and her natural hair specialist license to offer a wide range of services to her community. "I have kept every handout, quiz, and note from my time at Soma, which helps refresh my memory and provides new insights and protocols to better assist my clients" stated Ahajanay. We are so proud of Ahajanay and all of her success. We can't wait to see what the New Year brings to her!

"(1) I started the full-time program in 2002, graduating in 2003. (2) I chose the Soma Institute because it was the only clinical massage program knowing I didn’t want to enter the spa setting. I wanted to learn specific protocols to treat athletes and handle more complicated cases. (3) Soma prepared me to work in multiple Chiropractic settings for two years as a Licensed Clinical Massage Therapist. Working within that environment, I wanted to further my education so in 2005, I enrolled into a concurrent degree program at Cleveland Chiropractic College now called Cleveland University—Kansas City. I graduated in 2010 with a BS in Human Biology & Doctorate in Chiropractic. (4) Since graduating from The Soma Institute in 2003 & Chiropractic College in 2010 I have worked in many different offices doing both massage therapy & Chiropractic. In 2013, I experienced a horrible injury while at work and sought help from over twenty different providers to determine my diagnosis. It took three years of countless doctor appointments & treatments until my pain finally resolved. At this point, I knew I wanted to shift my perspective on how I treat my patient’s conditions so I almost exclusively offer soft tissue treatments under my Chiropractic license. In February 2023, I opened Performance Recovery Doc in downtown Glen Ellyn, IL. I use the knowledge that I learned at Soma, Cleveland University along with many continuing education classes to treat my patients. I’m currently looking to expand my practice with a larger location and hiring employees. Happy Holidays! This is a reminder that the license renewal deadline is coming up. If you have an Illinois Massage Therapy License, you must renew by 12/30/2024. If this is your first renewal, you will only need to pay the renewal fee. Please see the “Renewal Instructions” link below if you are unsure how to proceed. If this is your second or more time renewing, you will need to pay the fee and obtain 24 hours of continuing education. 2 hours must be in Ethics and 1 in Sexual Harassment Prevention. (This is separate from the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Awareness CE that will be required for the 2026 renewal). Let me know if you have any questions! Please note, if your license lapses it is a lengthy and potentially expensive process to reinstate it. So, make sure you are on top of the renewal deadline.
