Mountain Bongos Kenya has welcomed back 17 mountain bongos, a rare antelope species considered a national treasure, from a conservation center in the United States. These bongos are third-generation descendants of those originally taken from Kenya in the 1960s. Their return from the Rare Species Conservation Foundation in Florida is celebrated as a significant milestone in the country's conservation efforts. The mountain bongo population in Kenya had plummeted, with estimates indicating fewer than 100 individuals remain in the wild, largely due to habitat destruction, poaching, and disease. This return serves as a powerful reminder of the achievements possible through collaboration, regardless of the challenges faced. Are you ready to be part of the global change that supports wildlife habitats and combats poaching? Presidents Day A holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February (17th) since 1971 when the US Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. The origins trace back to Washington’s Birthday, established in 1885 to honor George Washington, the first president of the United States. Initially celebrated on February 22, Washington's actual birthday, the holiday fell on a Sunday in its inaugural year. Nearly a century later, Congress shifted the observance to the third Monday in February to provide a long weekend, although the official name remains “Washington’s Birthday.” #facts #president #USA #birthday #washington #February #LinkedIn #Holiday #SOLfoundation #Wednesday
