  • The Shops at RedBird is proud to host “Forest Forward: The Future Is Here,” an exhibition celebrating the rich cultural history and ambitious revitalization plans for the historic Forest Theater. Originally built in 1949, the Forest Theater has been a cornerstone of South Dallas’s artistic and community life. This exhibition offers visitors an immersive journey through its storied past and a glimpse into its promising future. The exhibition is open to the public and free of charge. The showcase also highlights the ongoing $75 million restoration project aimed at transforming the Forest Theater into a state-of-the-art performing arts and education complex. • Exciting things are happening at The Shops at RedBird! We recently celebrated the Grand Opening of Vogel Alcove’s newest facility, a 15,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art childcare center at RedBird. The Rita Sue and Alan Gold Child and Family Center, named in honor of the Golds’ longstanding support, will provide care for 134 children, from six weeks to Pre-K, as well as their families. Employees at any company within The Shops at RedBird will have priority placement, alongside families already supported by Vogel. Additional spaces will be available to families throughout southern Dallas. This is a major milestone in making childcare more accessible and serving our community in a meaningful way! But that’s not all — Crossroads Community Services has officially broken ground! This vital project will bring even more resources and opportunities to the heart of South Dallas, creating a lasting impact for those in need. The second location will serve as a nutrition pharmacy concept at The Shops at RedBird. Stay tuned as RedBird continues to grow, bringing new developments and powerful community partnerships! ?

Originally established as Red Bird Mall in September 1975, this iconic shopping destination quickly became the premier retail hub for southern Dallas and the Best Southwest area. Spanning over one million square feet with more than 100 retailers, Red Bird Mall was more than just a place to shop—it was a cornerstone of the community. In 1997, after being rebranded as Southwest Center Mall, the property faced numerous challenges, from the rise of online shopping to shifting demographics and competition. By the 2010s, the mall was struggling, with many fearing its closure. But in 2015, everything changed. Investor Peter Brodsky purchased the mall's core and began a mission to revitalize it, involving the community every step of the way. By 2017, the redevelopment, known as "Reimagine RedBird," was in full swing, transforming the space into a dynamic mixed-use destination. Today, The Shops at RedBird is home to major tenants like UT Southwestern Medical, Starbucks, Foot Locker, and more, and has created over 3,000 jobs. This project has earned accolades like "Retail Project of the Year" from the Dallas Business Journal and continues to serve as a symbol of resilience and innovation in Southern Dallas. Follow us to learn more about Red Bird Mall’s incredible journey from Southwest Center Mall to Reimagine RedBird to the thriving Shops at RedBird!
