The Thanksgiving holiday is a time to reflect on all the things for which we are thankful. This year, I’m incredibly thankful for the dedicated people of SCAN and our affiliates who go above and beyond every single day for the people we serve. They approach their work with a boldness and courage and passion that is unrivaled in healthcare. This morning, I’m thinking of: -our Healthcare in Action street medicine staff that provide care to society’s most vulnerable: the unhoused. -our Welcome Health, Embrace, and HomeBase Medical clinical teams that provide world-class dare and service to patients in their homes. -our SCAN Health Plan Rebels who find a way to make a very complicated healthcare system simple for patients every single day. Wishing everyone a very happy Thanksgiving holiday full of togetherness with family and loved ones.

The results are in and our Rebels have spoken! SCAN's recent 2024 Gallup employee survey results have shown that SCAN has significantly exceeded and achieved high marks in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB). This valuable feedback from around the organization helps drive the initiatives that enable SCAN to continue to foster a workplace that treats everyone fairly, treasures diverse opinions, and allows everyone to feel respected and included. SCAN is excited to unveil its first community center in Nevada! The center, which offers local seniors and SCAN partners a dedicated space for support, had its successful soft opening, with its official grand opening to come in 2025. SCAN looks forward to exploring and promoting even more ways to keep the older adult community in Nevada healthy and independent! November is Caregiver Month, and I am incredibly proud of the WELL ERG panel discussion on caregiving! Together, we created a powerful moment to celebrate and amplify the voices of caregivers within our SCAN community, while shining a much-needed light on the critical support they deserve. A HUGE thank you to our inspiring CEO, Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA for kicking off this conversation and reminding us of the need for a holistic approach to supporting caregivers. Our amazing panelists: Alyssa Rios, Lucy Rodriguez-Hanley and Subhayu ( Archie ) Dey shared incredible and diverse perspectives on caregiving. From personal stories about the challenges of balancing caregiving and professional life, to advocating for more data-driven, company-wide support systems, and highlighting the importance of connecting caregivers to resources, this discussion was a profound reminder of why it’s essential for all of us to recognize and support caregivers in meaningful ways. A special thank you to Ariel Wages, MPH for moderating such an inspiring and impactful conversation—you made it unforgettable! As someone who leads programs that create spaces for these vitals conversations, I cannot be prouder of the impact we are making through discussions like this one.
