We're thrilled to welcome Mary Klein as a Strategic Advisor to Rome! ?? Mary joined Rover.com in 2013 as employee #40, when the pet sitting marketplace was still an early-stage startup. During her nearly 7-year tenure, she helped scale critical marketplace operations and trust and safety initiatives. As both a seasoned product leader and a dog parent, Mary understands the complexities of building trust in the pet sitting space. Her experience in creating efficient, user-centric solutions during Rover's crucial growth phase and her commitment to pet safety aligns perfectly with Rome's vision of revolutionizing urban pet care, starting with safe, private spaces for urban dogs. We've already learned a lot from Mary, and we're excited to have her strategic guidance as we scale our marketplace of private yards and continue to enhance the experience for both hosts and dog parents! ?? #PetTech #MarketplaceStartup #StartupAdvisor #DogWellness #UrbanPetCare #Rover #Rome

All of the sudden October is my favorite month becauseeeee... I'm excited to announce that Rome is joining LAUNCH as a portfolio company! We couldn't have done this without the strong support from the Founder University team, specifically Jason Calacanis, Kelly Schricker, Lukas Durand, and Bianca Veltri. Founder University was a launchpad for us, packed with invaluable resources that set us up for where we are today. Speaking of, Rome is having its best month yet: ?? Joined the LAUNCH portfolio ??? Joined the Antler ATX Residency Program ?? Launched in Austin ?? Over 225 bookings made by 80+ unique guests ?? October is on track for +90% MoM revenue growth Rome (theromeapp.com) is re-imagining the urban dog experience, and we're starting with yard-sharing, built for dogs. It's inspired by (and named after) Sahil and I's goodest boy, Rome the dog (https://lnkd.in/geFu94ku). We do this for him. We're working hard to find yards where they need to be and working with trusted dog park businesses to make sure that happens. Joining the LAUNCH portfolio gets us one step closer to meeting our goals and fulfilling our vision, and so I'm incredibly honored to be given this opportunity. We're going to close out October with an absolute bang. Excited to continue to grow in Seattle and establish ourselves in Austin! And as you can probably guess, Rome is currently taking small checks to help us reach our next milestone! If you're interested in joining LAUNCH on our cap table, my DMs are open.

We ?? Seattle Thank you for the feature, YoungTech Seattle!
The Future Is Here! (Again) Thank you to all of those who reached out following the first edition of our Seattle Founders Under 35 Market Map in collaboration with Peter Mueller of Breakwater Ventures. Since then we were introduced to so many new companies across the ecosystem that we felt compelled to release this Second Edition! Our (still growing) list of local startups in this demographic is now more than 100! ?? Our core mission at YoungTech Seattle is to educate & empower the next generation of great founders & operators, and a great first step is shedding some light on this under-reported but incredibly powerful segment of the Seattle ecosystem. Please reach out to us if your company (or one you know of) has not yet been captured -- we'd love to meet you and learn about what you're working on! Rome is continuously improving based on direct feedback from our guests and hosts, but sometimes we make bold moves based on observation. One of our latest moves: AI-powered yard listings. Hosts can now easily create their yard listings in minutes by uploading photos of their yard, selecting a few details, and letting Rome's magic do the rest. ? We're integrating AI where it where it adds to most value. We've seen our new hosts struggle to come up with their yard title and description from scratch, so it made it made the most sense to take care of this for them. More on the feature here: https://lnkd.in/gMg3Sdrc We encourage other startup founders and tech leaders to observe their customers and leverage new tech where it truly helps the most. We'd love to hear from you: if you're not an AI-first company, how are you levering AI in your industry?

Rome is building in public, so we're happy to share our challenges with the hope that others can follow our journey and learn how we tackled them. Follow our co-founders, Ana Malhotra and Sahil Naikwadi, to get the latest on Rome's growth! Also: today marks the official start of Rome's funding journey. Feel free to DM our co-founder and CEO, Ana Malhotra, to learn more about Rome and the founding team.
I think Jason Calacanis and I had a little too much fun jamming about Rome ?? --- I was invited to Jam with JCal on This Week in Startups, and we went over Rome's current biggest challenge: supply (yard) acquisition. As an early investor in Uber, Thumbtack, and even Meowtel, we knew we'd get some great insight into tackling this challenge from Jason, and that's exactly what happened-- we got ideas on new tactics we should try and a push to double down on some of the ones we're already doing. I want this opportunity to be as helpful to other marketplace founders as it was to me, so I definitely encourage you to watch and apply the guidance to your startup: https://lnkd.in/gY4FVMnK --- What an incredible experience and opportunity to be able to Jam with JCal on This Week in Startups! Thanks to Founder University, LAUNCH, and .TECH Domains for making this happen. 11 out of 10 experience. ?? The release of this episode marks the official start of Rome's funding journey. Feel free to DM me to learn more about Rome and our founding team. ---

Our co-founder and CEO is now working full-time on Rome! ??
I’m excited, nervous, overjoyed, sad, and everything in between to announce that today was my last day at AWS. I feel like I grew up at AWS. My first real internship and job was here. After graduating from VirginiaTech, I spent some time as an AppSec Engineer, working with some of the best builders and security engineers. On this team, I learned security and what it takes to scale it. I learned in this role, and it’s why I was able to teach in the next.?Shoutout, of course, to Will, Jiphun, and Krupa. I decided to switch to a Security SA role when I realized my skills may be a better fit, and I was fortunate that Mike was willing to take a chance on me. He pitched his team to be THE destination team for specialist SAs and still managed to downplay it. On this team, you’re encouraged to pursue and impact the domains that you care about and have fun while doing it. There’s no other team like it. I’ve met some of the smartest and kindest people and truly made some friends for life. Thank you to Matthew to continue making this team what it is, and I can't wait to see how this team continues to grow under your leadership. Finally, thank you to my colleagues (and good friends) who've mentored me along the way in areas beyond security-- Omar, ?? vgr ??, and Kareem. They’ve made me a better person, and I’m honored for being able to work and grow with them. I do believe my legacy at AWS will be the AppSec-related field and customer enablement work I did as an SA, but I’m proud of everything I've accomplished and incredibly grateful for all the opportunities provided to me along the way. Leaving AWS gives me the same emotions I went through when I moved from my home in Virginia to Seattle. The excitement of what’s to come with the nervousness of leaving something that’s comfortable. AWS feels like home, and I feel like I’m leaving home once again. So what’s next? I’m pursuing my dream of creating and leading something I can truly call my own, in an area I’m so very passionate about. I’ll be working full-time on my startup, Rome (theromeapp.com). I'll be wearing many hats, and potentially taking a huge step away from security and solutions architecture, but I’ll always be an Amazonian and security gal at heart. I won't lie, it was a difficult decision. I’ve heard some people basically say that if you’re not able to quit your job as soon as you come up with your startup idea, you aren't crazy enough. I think dropping everything to pursue something you know very little about is over-romanticized, and it’s not reality. Taking a risk like this requires careful impact x likelihood evaluation (??). I say, take a bit of time, but I do hope you go for it. Thank you to everyone who’s supported me to make this leap: my younger brothers, my parents, and most importantly, Sahil, who this impacts the most. Hope to prove it to him that it’ll be worth it. Oh, and of course, our dog, Rome. Literally the name and reason behind the startup. Day 1, always. ??
