Nothing like the smell of a dairy farm in the morning. “It smells like money” is often what I’m told. In this case, ThermoShade’s passive cooling technology is aiming to help dairies increase their revenue and support the health of their herd. Heat stress can affect dairy cow’s food consumption, milk production rate and their pregnancy. Thermoshade is looking for partners to implement their composite panels to mitigate these adverse effects. The goal of this project is to study how their phase change material will absorb the cow’s body heat from underneath and reflect the sun’s heat from above, resulting in a cooler environment for healthier and more productive cows. An educational component will also be introduced in the study to promote heat stress awareness and indicators involved with heat exhaustion.
