Today, on National STEM Day, help us celebrate the remarkable achievements of the middle school scientists and engineers who were awarded over $100,000 in prizes for their groundbreaking research and innovations at this year’s Thermo Fisher Scientific #JuniorInnovators Challenge. From a water filtration system built with animal bone waste to a chemical “nose” trained with machine learning to detect food allergens and so much more, these outstanding students are tackling global challenges with ingenuity and inventive thinking. Thermo Fisher is proud to work with Society for Science to support and inspire this next generation of #STEM leaders. Thanks to these young minds, the future is bright. ??

This week, I had the privilege of meeting with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. We had a very productive discussion about the current business climate, the state’s biomedical ecosystem and the long-term benefits of advancing the life sciences industry in Massachusetts. We also talked about the importance of a strong STEM education system, as well as the role of our region’s academic medical centers and institutions of higher learning in fueling discovery and Innovation and developing the next generation of talent. The impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on scientific discovery – and on nearly every aspect of our lives – was also a key topic of conversation. It goes without saying that I was proud to share with the governor the role that Thermo Fisher plays in advancing many of these priorities. As one of the state’s largest companies, we are committed to helping advance the life sciences industry in Massachusetts, so we can help to improve lives across the globe.

We believe in the power of community and the impact of small acts of kindness. This is why our colleagues, in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, support families like the Huggins, whose premature baby required an 82-day NICU stay. Thermo Fisher Scientific volunteers provided meals that made their stay “like home” so that they were able to “unwind... get some sleep and do it all over the next day for our baby,” said Allyson Huggins. We are proud of our global network of colleagues who provide vital support in their communities. https://lnkd.in/g77AFgvw

Thermo Fisher Scientific and Novo Nordisk Foundation Cellerator share a vision for transforming the future of cell therapy, which involves transplanting healthy, living cells to potentially cure patients with chronic or life-threatening diseases such as Parkinson’s, kidney disease, type 1 diabetes and more. This is why both organizations are now working together to support operational excellence in the Cellerator GMP facility and innovation hub that will open in 2027 at the Technical University of Denmark. Colleagues from Thermo Fisher and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Cellerator gathered to celebrate this collaboration on October 31 when keynote speaker Dr. Kapil Bharti of The National Institutes of Health shared his perspective on innovations in stem cell therapy for eye disease treatment. We look forward to the future of this collaboration, which is focused on advancing cell therapy treatments for patients who need them most. https://lnkd.in/e4e-pjSR
