Save lives. Provide hope. Help those impacted by blood cancer.
关于我们
Our mission is: Save lives. Provide hope. Help those impacted by blood cancer. There Goes My Hero was founded by leukemia survivor and bone marrow transplant recipient Erik Sauer. On May 20, 2008, Erik was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). One week later, Erik’s wife Lisa gave birth to their son Joey. Several days later, Erik entered Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he spent four rocky months, receiving chemotherapy and, ultimately, a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. Erik's own fight led him to want to help others. Today, Hero partners with DKMS to add potential lifesavers to the National Bone Marrow Registry; provides meals to patients undergoing treatment and their family members with Moveable Feast, and supports blood cancer research and patient support programs at Maryland hospitals.

Connecting with the Baltimore community and spreading awareness about joining the bone marrow donor registry is always a highlight for us. It was amazing to see so many people eager to learn how they can save lives, provide hope, and help those impacted by blood cancer ??.

What a success ??! Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to partner with the Black Women's Collective at The Johns Hopkins University for our Black History & Black Health event as a part of our Color the Registry initiative for Black History Month. We swabbed 18 potential donors and educated 30 people about our cause. Huge thanks to our amazing volunteers, Akeema Bichali and Traniceia Campbell, for giving a powerful presentation about our organization, mission, and what it means to be a Hero ??. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. If you and your team are interested in hosting an event like this, reach out to [email protected] for more ??.

SUCCESS! Yesterday, we hosted 2 drives at Johns Hopkins University with their Black Women’s Collective and African Student Association. We educated the students on the importance of getting on the national registry and why they should be encouraging their friends and families to do so as well. THE RESULT? * 18 Students were swabbed to become donors - that’s 18 potential lives that can be saved as a result * 30 Individuals educated and can now pass on the word to dispel myths in Black and minority communities * 10 people joined the mission of There Goes My Hero as volunteers Also, special shoutout to our Hero Ambassadors, Akeema and Traniceia, for speaking to the students and to Tami for her leadership in putting this together! Saving lives. Proving hope. Helping those impacted by blood cancer… …one swab, one seminar at a time! There Goes My Hero
