I’m happy to share that I’ve been involved as a Volunteer with The People Concern. It's a great organization - please comment below or message me if you would like to learn more or get involved. https://lnkd.in/g5vSpUvt I could use some volunteers to help me! It's an ongoing clinic that aids with domestic violence and other family law matters primarily, but also everything else under the sun comes up. Mondays from about 5p-6:30p. I could use help any Mondays you can be available. Every week, once a month, once per quarter.....whatever you can do. Make yourself available and help the community. The law is difficult. Don't make these people try to figure it out on their own.

As a founder of a shopping tech startup, I have always believed that Locker needed to have a greater mission that is an extension of who we are and how we can use our platform to give back to our community. So with Locker's Payback feature coming soon (a feature that seeks to democratize influencer & affiliate monetization to the everyday consumer), we wanted to think of a complimentary marketing campaign that would reinforce how Payback allows "everybody to win" and share some of their earnings for the greater good. While additional marketing efforts will soon ensue, to start it felt important to bring a human element and our community together. So our team put our heads together and quickly ideated on a Pay It Forward week. During this week, each day we committed to sharing ideas for random acts of kindness to inspire our community via organic social. The prompts have varied from leaving a bigger tip for service workers, to surprising your co-worker with their fav coffee order. But who would we be if we didn't lead by example? We knew we wanted to kick off the week by hosting an event, that our investor Wonder Ventures so graciously offered to host at their office in Santa Monica. We felt compelled to give back to a local charitable organization, but it wasn't until?Mary Grace Scully did a little bit of research that gave us the "aha moment" that we were on the right path..."Santa Monica Locker Program" was one of the search results. Now that can't be just a coincidence, right? After further research, we learned that the lockers offered by SHWASHLOCK are reserved for unhoused community members who wish to store their belongings while they work or search for employment and housing to better their lives. And as fate would have it, this program is run by The People Concern, where it just so happens that my amazing friend Sarah Knauer is on the board. In no time, we went from inception to sending a Partiful invite, and had incredible brand partners donate enough products to fill over 200 care packages - shout out to Jinx, Bombas, Laundry Sauce, All Better Co., Salo & Salo Dental Aesthetics, Fair & Square and by/ rosie jane !! This past Thursday night, the Locker community came together to write personal, uplifting messages on the care packages, and fill each gift bag with products ranging from deodorant to healthy snacks and toiletries. We're so grateful to every single person who helped make this happen - you can check out the recap of the event below, and keep up with us on socials (@wantlocker) to stay inspired on ways to pay it forward this week and everyday! #consumer #giveback #givingback #givingseason #community

Featuring Arcane-themed treats like Ambessa’s Red Velvet Cookies and Blue Hair Girl Gallettes, our annual charity bake sale raised over $18,000 for The People Concern, a local LA nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals in need of housing and support - a cause we've been championing for over a decade now. Rioters also contribute their time and have used it to serve over 500,000 meals to folks in need. Over the years, Riot’s donations have helped The People Concern support over 16,000 individuals across LA county.

According to the 2024 Point-in-Time Homeless Count, 24% of Angelenos experiencing homelessness are living with a serious mental illness. The link between homelessness and mental illness has led us to integrating mental health care throughout our programs. Through last fiscal year, 1,559 clients were served by our Mental Health department, an incredible 54% increased compared to FY 22/23!?

Nicole Roberts, an E6 Substance-Use Case Manager at The People Concern, recently spoke with CBS News about our mission in addressing and providing support to people experiencing homelessness. Kristen Aster, our Director of Public Policy and Advocacy also talks about how our supportive services are the reason why 92% of the people we house stay housed for good. Throughout the course of this last year, our ever-growing outreach teams have brought multi-disciplinary services to people experiencing homelessness all across LA county. Compared to fiscal year 22/23, our amazing outreach teams increased the total provided outreach services by a staggering 32%! Outreach services are often the first steps in the journey to getting housed, by increasing our services we hope to create more meaningful connections that lead to helping our unhoused neighbors get indoors.
