Innovation, Passion, Community Reflecting on how incredible DC Startup & Tech Week (Formerly DC Startup Week) was this year ????.I’m grateful to be in a community with so many inspiring minds, movers, and shakers. Being part of the panel on ‘How Businesses & Industries are Using AI Right Now to Scale’ was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we are intentional about building with outcomes in mind. Thank you to Marcy Ewald for moderating such an insightful discussion and to my fellow panelists for dropping the gems ?????? Bethlehem B., Founder & CEO of Theory AI – Shared how AI extends her team’s capacity, turning data into insights that drive smarter decisions. Haroun Ansari, CTO of Pam AI – Kept the energy high and explained how AI is transforming customer experiences and streamlining operations. Khuram Zaman, CTO of University Startups – Shared insights on AI’s impact in education and the opportunities it creates for students. A special thank you to Seema Alexander and Rachel Koretsky for making this event possible and to everyone who attended with curiosity and engagement. Here are some highlights and takeaways that resonated with our audience: ?? AI as a Judgment-Free Mentor: We discussed how tools like ChatGPT give founders the freedom to experiment, troubleshoot, and learn without the fear of judgment. It’s a powerful resource for growing confidently at your own pace. ?? Automation for Productivity: Tools like ClickUp, Loom, and Otter.ai allow small teams to automate routine tasks, freeing up time to focus on strategic and creative work. ?? Staying Close to Customers: AI tools for sentiment analysis and personalized follow-ups enable us to better understand and engage with customers, keeping us connected to their needs in real time. ?? Experiment with Purpose: With so many tools emerging, we emphasized the importance of intentional experimentation. AI is exciting, but staying focused on goals and user needs is key. ?? Building Together: This panel reinforced the power of community. When we build networks of peers and mentors, we gain support, fresh perspectives, and the motivation to build again. At the beginning of the year I set out an intention to meet and get to know as many people as I can in #GovCon. I was initially overwhelmed with my own ambition, as someone who is naturally introverted (a lot of people don’t believe me when I say that but it’s true)… I decided to challenge myself to take a 1,000 selfies in 2024 (and have 1,000 brand new conversations!) After thoughtful deliberation, I came up with a fun and creative way to capture these selfies and build community using a hashtag that I felt best represented me….hence how #BeSelfies ???? was born. Bzzzzzzzz Well, it’s now November and I am very very close to reaching that milestone! Every Selfie I take is special to me…Every single event I go to, I try to make a meaningful connection and get to know each individual far BEYOND their job title, and business interests. I want to know people for who they are and what makes them passionate about their career. The last event I went to was the annual Imagine Nation ELC by American Council for Technology - Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) in Hershey, Pennsylvania. I left the conference feeling deeply inspired and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took a Selfie with me! I am I inspired by your story and your WHY. It may surprise you, but I have many more selfies…I’m trying to figure out a way to post them without overwhelming my audience here! I hope everyone is recovering from ELC. To all my introverts out there…you can DO this! What was your favorite highlight from American Council for Technology - Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC)’s Imagine Nation ELC ? We loved “Empower Hour” session which was designed to connect Executive women from Industry and Government to discuss growth opportunities, and expand their network! Shout out to the session sponsor FWDthink and our panel host Carmen Zapata, PMP, CSCP (CTO) for facilitating the discussions. The star studded panel included Poupak Afshar (She/Her) (Easy Dynamics Corp ), Chidilim (Chi) O. (NASA), Monica PADRON Harris (USCIS), and Danielle Metz (Department of Defense)! Thank you ladies for such an insightful discussion about your leadership journey! This session had participants divided into 4 groups: Mentorship, Networking, Mental Health and Wellness. Main takeaways from the panel during Empower Hour: - You rent your title but you OWN your career - We need to consistently and consciously build community and surround ourselves with the right people - As leaders we need to ask for help when we need it and give (& allowing grace ) in all our interactions (both for ourselves and our team). Our keynote speaker, the legendary Olympian Dominique Dawes, inspired us to “Leave our ego at the door” when leading and reminded us what matters the most at the end of our busy lives: Our connection to our family and community.
