"This wasn’t the morning we hoped for, but it’s the morning we have—and in many ways, the one we were made for. Don’t forget that long ago we set out to make long-term change, and we have done that, and we will continue to do so. "Take care of yourselves today. For those of you meeting partners, participants, and fellows this week, don’t forget to remind them of who we are, what we have accomplished, and what we will continue to achieve TOGETHER. "I’m grateful for all of you fierce, brilliant humans." - Katie Orenstein, Founder and CEO of The OpEd Project

关于我们
The OpEd Project is a social venture and leadership organization, founded to change who writes history. We are a community of journalists, thought leaders, and change agents who actively share knowledge, resources, and connections across color, creed, class, sexuality, gender, ability, and beyond. Through our nationally-recognized curriculum, our team of journalist mentors, and through a portfolio of programs in partnership with leading institutions across the nation and the globe, we accelerate the ideas and impact of underrepresented voices, including women of all backgrounds. We have been covered by most major media. We have stunning results.

“Men of this generation face an important choice” Read my #OpEd in @The Opinion Pages on the importance of tackling men's mental health if we want to end violence in one generation. #GenderBasedViolence is everyone's issue, yet made out to be a women's issue. When we work with #male #GenderChampions at Parity Lab, we always discover childhood trauma at the root of violence. Special shout out to the The OpEd Project and Equality Now team, especially to Chloe Angyal for helping get this out!

Thank you, Platform Africa, for featuring my article. This topic is one I am deeply passionate about, inspiring me to explore it for my Master’s thesis and later develop it into this article. It addresses a pressing social issue affecting many brave Ugandan women who would greatly benefit from tighter labour export regulations, enhanced pre-departure training (including cultural orientation), and stronger government protections. A special thank you to the Oak Foundation for facilitating my participation in The OpEd Project’s “Write to Change the World” program, which encouraged me to develop this piece. I am also immensely grateful to Michael Bociurkiw, who guided me throughout this journey as part of the program. I hope this article sparks conversations and catalyzes change. Explore a poignant narrative by Karungi Kajura on the experiences of young Ugandan women at Entebbe International Airport, often embarking on uncertain journeys abroad. These women, commonly misperceived and labeled as "house girls," occasionally reveal their distressing situations through social media, including abuse and financial appeals for medical and repatriation support. This article delves into their stories, challenging stereotypes and highlighting their realities. Read the full article in the link below: https://lnkd.in/dTihP6gz

My latest op-ed highlights that accessible design should not be an afterthought —it needs to start in K-12 education. https://lnkd.in/gVkSGzRt Thanks to: Michele Weldon The OpEd Project University of Illinois System #PublicVoices

It was such a pleasure to join my friends and colleagues Erin Wade and Anjelica Fraga Escalante and Alegría Sanchis with The OpEd Project on Tuesday evening, to talk about personal brand, naming and titles, the power of envy, and what these mean for each of us in the world. My favorite part was when Erin, who is the founder of the restaurant Homeroom Mac & Cheese and author of a new book, The Mac & Cheese Millionaire, spoke about claiming her title: “For a long time,” she said, “I just called myself an owner. Then I was doing research about female CEOs - there were so few in the Fortune 500. I wanted there to be more female CEOs in the world, and I realized, I could just be one. I started calling myself CEO. And then I started acting differently. I joined an organization that was only open to CEOs. People started treating me really differently.” It changed not just how seriously the world treated her, she observed, but how seriously she treated herself. I especially love this story because accurately naming and claiming our titles and expertise is a core exercise at the OpEd Project - and indeed I was over the moon to learn from Erin that the first sentence of her book (which contains the words “I am an expert in…”) began in an OpEd Project workshop. If you’d like to join an OpEd Project workshop too, you can sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eSC3SU62 A word abut our monthly “expert talks” and public events: this is part of an initiative that The OpEd Project began a few years ago, to foster deeper connection among and with our community. We explore questions of voice and identity and how ideas and words come to change the world. Our goal is to inform, inspire and share the brilliance of our community, while actively expanding the construct of “expert.” We host an expert talk or community event every month, usually on the last Tuesday of the month, but in December we’ll be early - we’re hosting a Community Free Write on December 17 at 7pm ET. This has been a tough month for many of us, and we felt it would be good to come together to think and write in community. Loose structure, tight support, in 60 minutes. If you could use that yourself, I hope you join us. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/etJjucig One more thing - and if you’d like to propose an expert talk or event with us in 2025, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eDmexCw5

Thank you The OpEd Project for the Expert Talk with the brilliant Erin Wade on building a personal brand. I appreciated her advice to pick three traits and use them as guiding priniciples. #BuildYourBrand

Building a strong personal brand starts with clarity: who do you want to be, and how will you claim it? Start by defining your mission and choosing three traits that represent your brand. These traits guide everything you do. Once you’ve got that foundation, it’s about consistent communication. Focus on one social media platform you genuinely enjoy and feel comfortable with. Don’t overwhelm yourself trying to master them all. Claim your title, define your mission, and show up consistently. That’s how you build a brand that stands out.
