ICAP Grand Rounds: Is The Next Pandemic Already Here? The Looming Threat of H5N1 Monday, Aug 27, 9AM: Recent months have seen a rise in H5N1 (Avian Flu) cases, including infections in cows, mammals, and a few humans exposed to cattle and poultry. While the risk to the public is still low, experts from the CDC and WHO will discuss the potential global threat and response efforts. This event is co-sponsored by PRI.

Authors explore the profound ways in which disasters – ranging from earthquakes and plagues to terrorist attacks and global pandemics – reshape our societal structures and belief systems.

PRI Faculty Rachael Piltch-Loeb and Scott Ratzan with fellow CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy Faculty Denis Nash write in an opinion piece in The Hill about the recent third human case of H5N1 infection in the U.S. and advocate for a comprehensive governmental response that includes vigilant monitoring of the food supply, detailed tracking of animal and human transmission, and effective communications to manage the H5N1 threat and prevent a potential pandemic.
