Leaving Chicago this morning filled with inspiration after attending the National Public Housing Museum’s inaugural, “A Place to Call Home” gala. Legendary rapper Roxanne Shanté (and former resident of the Queensbridge Houses) emceed our memorable sold-out event at Morgan Manufacturing in Chicago’s West Loop. We had a blast raising funds in anticipation of our long-awaited grand opening and permanent museum home. If you want to learn more and/or support the only cultural institution devoted to telling the story of public housing in the United States, visit the NPHM site at: https://lnkd.in/ey4At7Qr #PublicHousing #AffordableHousing #NPHM #Chicago #MorganMFG

Congratlations to Lisa Lee and everyone at the National Public Housing Museum team for an outstanding celebration last night. I was happy to break out my late mother’s hat for the fancy occasion. I particularly loved connecting Elevate partners from the Help This Garden Grow podcast with the amazing Zenobia Black. it was great to reconnect with friends like Rufus Williams Jane M. Saks and Heather D. Parish and Teresa Rufaro Prim as well as old colleagues like Cate Cahan from WBEZ.

We're just days away from our A Place to Call Home Gala. We're excited to honor Power of Place awardee,?Kimberly Foxx, a former resident of Cabrini-Green Homes and Cook County State’s Attorney. Did you know that we have Kim's oral history recording in our Oral History Archive? In the future, you’ll be able to listen to her memories of growing up in Cabrini-Green Homes on our website, home to the nation’s largest collection of public housing residents’ oral histories! In the meantime, here's a clip!
