The Military Veteran

Last week, The Military Veteran held its 1st company off-site with our teammates?from across the country in Washington DC. Without a doubt, this was one of the best events I've attended in my career. Over two days, we spent time getting to know one another and building trust, after many of us had just met for the first time. While focusing on our company core values, we discussed best?practices for working with our clients and #Veteran candidates, reviewed the past year and planned for 2025. We also had the chance to visit the monuments on the National Mall and Tidal Basin -- while it snowed! On Thursday evening, 100+ Veterans gathered downtown at the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, LLP which, along with Deloitte, sponsored TMV's Holiday Happy Hour. This Happy Hour was a fantastic chance to meet with old friends and make new?connections. We had Vets at various points in their careers, VSOs, and CEOs attend to support our charitable partners (below) and our mission... ...to assist incredibly high-performing military veterans through each career transition by providing training, education, a tribe, mentorship, and access to incredible job opportunities. I learned so much and want to recognize and thank our founder and CEO, Brendan Aronson. He's a one-of-a-kind leader who's created an incredibly?positive and special culture that we've been able to build upon with our new hires and partners. Happy Veterans Day to my LinkedIn community of #Veterans and civilian allies! Today, I have the distinct privilege to participate in the #IServed Campaign. The “I Served” Campaign is a joint effort between Context VC, VetraFi, and The Military Veteran to share our experiences as Veterans and increase awareness of the benefits of military service. This comes at a time when Veterans make up ~6% of the total US population. Growing up in the ‘80s, 18% of Americans were Veterans. Many of the senior leaders in my small community in rural PA were WWII and Korean War Vets. Whether in business, government, church, youth sports -- so many aspects of my early life were influenced by the service of these great Americans, especially my decision to serve. I joined the Marines in college through the Platoons Leaders Class and served for a total of nearly 9 years, including a recall from the IRR. I cannot place a value on the importance of both the relationships and the skills I developed in the Marines. Since leaving the Corps, I’ve had the honor of continuing to serve our community in my work assisting Vets with the career transition for the past 25 years – first at Lucas Group and now with TheMilVet. The vast majority of the tens of thousands of Vets who I’ve spoken with joined the military after 9/11. Many served in Iraq and Afghanistan for long deployments over and over again. I’m grateful to the GWOT Veterans for volunteering to serve our nation during a time of war... And I am truly humbled and grateful to work alongside this generation of Veterans at #TheMilVet and #ContextVentures. Have a peaceful Veterans Day ?? I left the service in 2007 - but the Marine Corps remains at the center of who I am. Today, only about one in four people between the ages of 17 and 24 meet the military's recruitment requirements. On this day 12 years year ago, I married Kris Karafa at the West Point Chapel. For those that don't know him, he served as an Army Special Forces Officer. We are committed to raising "warrior class" kids capable of serving if they so choose.
