What would you do if the role you thought you’d grow into… was just posted as an external hire? That’s exactly what happened to my client, Arjun. He saw a job listing for a leadership role—one he had assumed he’d build from the ground up. His first reaction? Shock. Confusion. Frustration. So I walked him through the situation using the lens of Energetic Leadership, a framework that helps leaders understand their choices and shift their impact. Here’s how the thoughts played out across different energy levels: Level 1: “Why does this happen to me? I knew I wasn’t good enough to lead this team.” Level 2: “WTF. This isn’t what I was told. How strong and supportive is your network? Look for ways to provide support to people in your network. Being empathetic to the situations of others allows you to offer them support even before they ask you for it. Consider yourself lucky (and blessed) when you are in the position to give and help out. The person you helped may not necessarily have to be the one to help you back when you are in need but you can be sure that person is bound to help others. Good deeds beget good deeds.
