After 9 years serving on the Board of Neighborhood Allies, I've termed out! It has been an honor to be part of a fiercely courageous organization that fosters a more just and inclusive society—where all can participate and prosper. The Neighborhood Allies team has changed thousands of lives by enabling access to affordable housing, providing capital programs and resources, encouraging community revitalization, fostering economic opportunities, and supporting financial and digital literacy. As the host organization of Steel Smiling, Neighborhood Allies supports Pittsburghers through community-based mental health programs. (We were thrilled to host their first cohort graduation at The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center! Call us about the next one, Julius A. Boatwright, MSW, LCSW, RYT!) When CEO Presley Gillespie joined Neighborhood Allies in 2014, the nonprofit had two employees and a $2.1 million budget. Ten years later, Presley is leading an organization with 25 employees and a $7 million budget. I’ve been awed by his passion and leadership as he’s overseen this tremendous growth. I’d be remiss not to mention COO Stephanie Chernay, who brings her consummate work ethic and leadership every day. Congratulations to all my colleagues on the Board, with a special thanks to current Board Chair Sallyann Kluz. What a privilege to serve as vice chair under her term! Best wishes to all working to advance Neighborhood Allies’ mission! Looking forward to hearing about more great things from this team!

Roberto Clemente was every Pittsburgher’s hero—including young Molly O’Brien, who grew up idolizing him and the 1970s Pirates. Her coming-of-age story unfolds in “The Great One,” a locally made Three Rivers Film Festival selection making its Lindsay debut this Saturday at 4 p.m. Stick around afterward for a filmmaker Q&A!
