The #HumanTraffickingHotline is a confidential, free to use, national resource in the U.S. designed to help victims of human trafficking, provide information, and connect people to services that can support them. Available 24/7 and offers assistance in over 200 languages. Whether someone is being exploited through forced labor, sex trafficking, or other forms of modern slavery, they can call, text, or chat with trained professionals who can guide them to safety or provide the necessary resources. The hotline can also be used by people who suspect trafficking or want to learn more about the issue, including law enforcement, social workers, and allows friends or family members of potential victims to raise concern. The number is 1-888-373-7888, and they also have a texting option (“BEFREE” or 233733). Source: Polaris (formerly Polaris Project) The Liberation Project?is an education platform that informs the public about the issue of human trafficking and supports existing anti-trafficking organizations actively. Signs of #Grooming Source: Destiny Rescue Listening: (The Sympathetic Friend) Traffickers know that desperation for a better life runs rampant in impoverished communities, especially among children. The exploiters carefully direct conversations toward difficulties in their targets’ lives, feeding that discontent and hopelessness, as they learn more personal information. The Love Interest: (Love of Your Life) After gaining their victims’ trust through listening and sympathizing, traffickers often have enough information to pose as an ideal partner. By gradually adjusting their fake personas and becoming everything their victim has expressed wants in a partner. They then foster the relationship to a point where they can convince the victim into an exploitative situation. The Dream Job: (An Offer Too Good To Be True) Traffickers commonly use false job offers to lure victims into their clutches. They simply place a fake job posting online or in paper form, generally from a neighboring location, and kidnap and/or entrap unsuspecting applicants who show interest. Groomers will approach victims (mainly children) using social media and outright deception. Online predators, in particular, have perfected this grooming method to increase their chances of success by pretending to represent a talent agency or apparel brand. They take time to compliment the child’s appearance, supporting and encouraging the content they produce. With the child feeling flattered, the trafficker will suggest to act as a brand ambassador or model for their fake company. Then entrap them in a 'legally binding' #predatorycontract or various other extreme methods of entrapment. The Liberation Project and Rescue Upstream are collaborating for a charity 90's night! The Liberation Project is not a political organization, and we are not endorsing any candidates. This post is to inform you on what the White House is doing to combat human trafficking. A quote from the Vice President of United States,?@kamalaharris, “human trafficking is a $150 billion global industry, exploiting 25 million people, many of whom are trafficked right here in the U.S. This crime is multifaceted and demands urgent action. Our National Action Plan focuses on prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnerships to combat trafficking and protect the most vulnerable—women, children, and minorities. We must all work together to end this heinous crime.” We serve to spread awareness and act as a force in the fight to end human trafficking. Such an interesting topic! What happens to victims legally when trying to get out of terrible situations can easily go unnoticed.
The Trafficking Survivors Relief Act (TSRA) would provide the first-ever pathway for criminalized survivors of human trafficking to clear their federal criminal records. Having a criminal record – even an arrest record without a conviction – is a significant barrier to gainful employment, finding safe housing, continuing education, and child custody. Here’s what we learned from the National Survivor Study: ?? 90% of survivors with a criminal record reported at least some or all was related to their trafficking experience. ?? 69% reported that their criminal record prevented them from getting or keeping a job. ?? 59% reported that their criminal record affected their ability to get good, safe housing. ?? 63% reported that their criminal record affected their ability to receive education, training, or a professional license. ?? 35% of those with a criminal record who also had children reported that their record affected their custody of their children. Passing this bill would make a historic step forward in protecting victims and survivors of trafficking at the federal level. The TSRA bill has been introduced in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, but we need your help to get it passed. Here are three ways YOU can encourage Congress to support victims and survivors of human trafficking: ? In-person meetings: This is the most effective and persuasive way to get your members of Congress to hear your opinions. You can call or email their offices to schedule an appointment with them in your home state. Find their contact information here: https://lnkd.in/grup5-2 ? Phone calls: Another great way to voice your support for the TSRA is by calling your members’ offices and asking them to pass the bill. Find a call script here: https://lnkd.in/ecqrF43M ? Letter writing: Send an email to your Representatives and Senators! You can fill out our Take Action form to send an email to your members of Congress. The form automatically identifies your members and provides you with a pre-written letter that you can edit before sending. https://lnkd.in/eFeWcevH Visit our Information Center to learn more about the TSRA, watch videos from survivors, and find out how you can help advocate for this important bill: https://lnkd.in/gAQNJmFN #HumanTrafficking #CriminalRecord #TraffickingSurvivorsReliefAct

On June 26th, a trafficker was sentenced to 311 months in prison for human trafficking crimes in the Federal District of New Jersey. The Human Trafficking Institute dedicated several weeks to providing crucial research and data that contributed to securing this lengthy sentence after trial. We commend Assistant U.S. Attorneys Bruce Keller and Joseph Minish, along with the entire United States Attorney's Office for New Jersey, for their steadfast commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting victims from exploitation. At the Liberation Project, we try to provide real examples that are not specific to one situation, but common enough to save any life. We have a story that is based in San Diego Comic-Con. STORY: California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced results of a human trafficking sting during the San Diego Comic-Con Convention. The operation led to 14 arrests and the recovery of 10 victims, including a 16 year old. Targeting buyers and rescuing trafficking victims the force worked undercover to identify and arrest traffickers and buyers. Comic Con and conventions alike are the perfect grounds to find unsuspecting victims and allow abusers to roam free in disguises. WAYS TO STAY SAFE (in large crowds) ???See something, say something. If you can watch over a complete stranger for 30 seconds, that’s more than what most people would do. ?? Know the red flags, trust in your gut instinct when you see something. Always assume but physically stay away from the situation as much as you can. ??Do not enter a crowd unless there is a safe clearing. If you are in a crowd, know who is next to you, behind you, in front of you, and TAKE UP ROOM. Move your hands around, take big steps, talk loudly, do not blend into the crowd. ?? Feel free to leave more recommendations or your personal experiences attending events. Source: Office of The Attorney General (CA)

Human trafficking is devastating. Being manipulated and coerce impacts on all. The most important fact to keep in mind; recovery is different for every victim. Most do not seek and receive support. Most can not recognize if they need any assistance. All are victims through and through. The Liberation Project serves the purpose of spreading awareness on social media to provide a safe space and a platform to trust. We are highlighting: The Trafficking In Persons Report The new edition has been released and it is an essential read for understanding the methodologies of research and executed actions for?#antitrafficking?measures in United States. Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of State released the 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report, providing a comprehensive overview of the state of human trafficking around the world. The Report discusses how technology plays an important role in combating human trafficking and how it is being used to improve awareness and outreach efforts to support worker engagement and empowerment. We are proud to see Polaris’s Nonechka project mentioned in this section of the Report: “Through its Nonechka project, Polaris collaborated with technology partner Ulula on a platform that allows farmworkers in Mexico and now in the United States to share their experiences, including information on risky recruitment and employment processes. This information also helps Polaris formulate prevention strategies, as well as inform workers about their rights, wages, and working conditions and how to access general services locally including emergency, transitional, or long-term services.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehYbvfty
