We are excited to highlight the work of one of our long-term grantees, Urban League of Central Carolinas, which has a long history of uplifting, supporting and empowering Black and Brown communities in the Charlotte region. A major highlight of ULCC's work since its founding almost 50 years ago is its tuition-free workforce development programs. They provided more than 300 individuals last year with practical hard skills training and job placement support in high-need industries with longer-term career and wage growth potential, including Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), Nursing and Electrical Careers. ULCC is a local leader in workforce development helping vulnerable families achieve social and economic mobility, and we are proud to support their work. Thank you to the staff & board at ULCC for making this great work happen each day! #LeonLevineFoundation #UrbanLeague #CarolinasNonprofit?

  • We were so honored to support Blumenthal Arts in their efforts last year to raise funds to bring every 6th grade student in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to experience Space Explorers: The Infinite on Stage 1 at Blume Studios! It looks like they had the best time! We remain committed to providing students in our community with high-quality educational opportunities that make their lessons memorable! ???? #LeonLevineFoundation #InternationalSpaceStation #STEM #CharlotteMecklenburgSchools #SpaceExploration #VirtualReality

#TBT Throwing it back to the 11 weeks of school field trips we hosted at Space Explorers: The Infinite on Stage 1 at Blume Studios! With generous support from lead sponsor The Leon Levine Foundation, CMS E3 funding and many arts education supporters in the community, we were able to welcome 12,000 students (most of them Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools 6th graders from 42 schools) to the immersive experience FREE OF CHARGE! That’s 105.5 total field trip hours in SPACE! Because of this support, students had the incredible opportunity to engage in enriching and even life-changing experiences. THANK YOU!

  • Our partner Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim?synagogue in Charleston has reached a momentous milestone: 275 years of service as a spiritual home for its community! ???? Founded in 1749, KKBE stands as the fourth-oldest Jewish congregation in the continental United States. As the birthplace of Reform Judaism in America, they have been at the forefront of progressive Jewish thought for nearly three centuries. In fact, their sanctuary is the oldest in continual use in the U.S.? KKBE is celebrating this tremendous achievement with events focusing on the pillars of religion, history, culture, service and wellness. On Jan. 28, the synagogue celebrated at The Charleston Music Hall with "The Second City in the Holy City," a fundraiser which offered a delightful night of sketch comedy, singing, dancing and improv with performers from The Second City in Chicago!? Festivities continue this month on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. with a talk by journalist Carl Bernstein at The College of Charleston's Sottile Theatre. Presented in collaboration with the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College, Bernstein will be in a dialogue exploring his life and career, with an outlook on current events. He is well-known for co-authoring the book "All the President's Men" about Richard Nixon and Watergate with Bob Woodward. He has also penned biographies about Pope John Paul II and Hillary Rodham Clinton. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. For more information and to reserve tickets: https://lnkd.in/e_z-qHEp? On April 24 at 7 p.m., you can also head to the Charleston Gaillard Center for Ernest Bloch’s Avodath Hakodesh (Sacred Service). This masterwork uses a chorus and full orchestra to engage with the Hebrew liturgy and create a pinnacle of drama in the Jewish musical canon. For this grand conclusion of its anniversary celebrations, KKBE will partner with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and Taylor Festival Choir! • We are thrilled that our partner Crossnore Communities for Children?innovative Bridging Families program has been adopted as the state of North Carolina's professional foster care model! A grant from both the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and The Leon Levine Foundation will enable Crossnore to establish the Bridging Families Institute and partner with other organizations to train and implement the program in regions throughout North Carolina. Crossnore provides foster homes for children in need. In return, each family receives training, a home study and ongoing monthly support throughout the foster care licensing process and beyond. The ultimate vision of Bridging Families is working toward a world where all children live with their families. The program uses a team approach that builds resilience to strengthen families, empowers birth parents through the support of professional foster parents and walks with families through the reunification process. Foster parents are salaried organization employees whose sole responsibilities are parenting the children in their care and working with the family of origin toward reunification. To find out more about the Bridging Families program, visit https://lnkd.in/e-ag45EW. #LeonLevineFoundation #EmpowerKids #NCNonprofit #BridgingFamilies
