Lancet Commission on Sustainable Healthcare

Just had a nice piece published in Kidney International as part of their Green Nephrology series. Entitled "Cutting back on low-value health care practices supports sustainable kidney care", the paper examines the three main value perspectives as it relates to healthcare (clinical effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and community perspectives) within the broader societal values of ethics and equity. I authored it with the wonderful Andrea Viecelli and Valerie Luyckx. They were a joy to work with, and I certainly learnt a lot from them as we developed the piece from our initial ideas to what it eventually became. https://doi.org/10.1016/ j.kint.2023.12.022

Earlier this week, I had the privilege to represent the Lancet Commission on Sustainable Healthcare at WHO's Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH)?meeting, where I moderated a delightful panel on indicators for low-carbon sustainable health systems. We discussed country experiences (Bhutan, Costa Rica, and Norway) and what support countries will need to measure progress in climate action. It was a fantastic meeting that brought together >300 participants from 80 countries to discuss the transformation of healthcare systems in the face of #climatechange and develop solutions focused on climate resilience and low carbon sustainable health systems. I learned a lot, including that Bhutan is perhaps the only carbon-negative country in the world, at least this year! Many thanks to my panelists, including Erlend Tuseth Aasheim, Cynthia Pérez Rodriguez, Karma Wangdi, Anja Leetz, and Ignacio Fernandez, all of whom did a fantastic job with their remarks; and thanks to the audience for providing us with?so much interaction and data over Slido.
