Stop The Interruption of Akif’s Cancer Treatment! ???????? Please meet 15-year-old Akif Samadov. Akif has spent the last four years in a treacherous battle against leukemia. Despite enduring all of these years of grueling chemotherapy and long hospital stays, Akif dreams big, hoping to become a pilot one day. Although cancer has kept him out of school, he loves to learn at any chance he can get, and has a deep passion for geography. Just when Akif thought the worst of his cancer was behind him and that he could soon return to his normal childhood, his cancer intensified. In July 2024, Akif and his family were forced to move from their home in Azerbaijan to seek urgent treatment at Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara, Turkiye. Being away from the comfort and familiarity of home has made his battle all the more difficult. After six months of more intensive chemotherapy at Hacettepe, Akif is currently facing an interruption to his treatment due to lack of funds. The funds are urgently needed to ensure he can continue his battle and return to health and to his home in Azerbaijan as soon as possible. ???? KCCF was able to step in with financial assistance to reduce their financial burden, but Akif’s family still faces overwhelming costs. URGENT Help Needed for Children Fighting Cancer and Fires in LA As if the tragedy of a cancer diagnosis were not enough, children battling cancer in the LA area now face another crisis – evacuating from the recent LA wildfires. These little fighters, already burdened with the pain of a cancer diagnosis, are now burdened with the fear of losing their homes in the fires, placing their treatment on hold and putting their safety at risk. Among these families is Rosa’s. Just a few months ago, Rosa’s 9-year-old son, Jesus, received the terrifying news of a leukemia diagnosis, forcing Rosa to quit her job to look after him and take him to chemotherapy once a week at Children's Hospital in Hollywood. Then, on January 7th, they had to flee their home to escape the Altadena Fire with only the few items they could carry. Now, like many others, Rosa and her family are facing even more uncertainty with the possibility of no longer having a permanent home and access to continuous treatments for Jesus’s cancer. Meet the Hero Daughter of a Hero Man! ???????? Please meet Duygu, a courageous young girl and the beloved daughter of a true hero—a dedicated military man. When doctors in her home country of Azerbaijan couldn’t offer promising treatment options, Duygu and her family sought help in Turkiye. She has endured more than most experience in a lifetime—multiple rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, and radiation. Tragically, the immense burden of seeing her child suffer took a toll on Duygu’s mother, who became seriously ill and could not care for her child. Therefore the father, Gazi, still serving the borders of the country had to take a leave from his responsibilities to be with their child and become a single caregiver for her. To save Duygu, he has sold his car, house, and all his possessions to pay for her cancer treatment. Below is a message from Duygu’s father, Gazi: "I cannot imagine a world without Duygu—she is the reason I breathe. Fighting for my daughter’s life is far more difficult than fighting for my country. Cancer is beyond my control.” Now, they have reached a critical point where immediate help is needed. The family urgently requires funds for Duygu’s treatment not to be interrupted. Several months ago, little Ibrahim began experiencing terrible headaches and discomfort. His family, desperate for answers, searched everywhere to find out what was ailing him. Then, on June 3, 2024, Ibrahim underwent brain surgery. The biopsy results were shattering, revealing a diagnosis no parent could prepare for—cancer, stage 4 medulloblastoma. As if that weren’t enough, Ibrahim soon faced multiple seizures, forcing his family into a heartbreaking decision. In a race against time, they sought hope in Türkiye at Hacettepe Hospital, where Ibrahim bravely underwent two more surgeries. With immense courage, Ibrahim began his chemo and radiation therapy, but the toll of these intense treatments has left himparalyzed in his legs, and he now relies on a feeding tube. Despite these overwhelming challenges, Ibrahim remains determined to keep fighting.
