Our team opened up about what makes Team Kanary special at our last offsite (with *this* view). Hours of discussion distilled into six values: 1. Flex beyond your comfort zone. 2. Write it down. 3. Be direct. Be focused. 4. Err on the side of async. 5. Embrace your inner theatre major. 6. Protect your sanity. Inspired by PostHog, Canny, Amazon, Fibery, & Wasp, who set a high bar for transparent and authentic startup culture, we've posted them publicly on our site (see ?? for full post). Our team is growing so if our work & values resonate, give us a follow and share. ??

We do not send your information to OpenAI. The privacy policies of big tech cannot be trusted. We learned this lesson the hard way with Google and Facebook, why would OpenAI be any different? We've also seen what can happen if a removal service misuses member information. If you have questions about our privacy policy, we keep it simple, it's linked right at the top of our homepage. And you can always reach out with questions. ?? Team Kanary [email protected] #privacy #openAI #dataremoval #cybersecurity #404media

Care about privacy regulation? ?? It’s been 10 months since California passed the “Delete Act,” which outlined a Universal Deletion Mechanism for Californians to delete their information from?all?registered data brokers in the state. ?? Last month, we had the chance to check in on how the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) is building that Universal Deletion Mechanism. Here’s what they're working on: ???Getting all major data brokers to register with the state ????Building a platform to manage data deletion in a privacy-preserving way ??Applying daily fines for brokers who refused to register Kanary has been building privacy-preserving deletion tech for 5+ years. Check out our blog post to learn what we recommended to their team. Linked in comments:??

Cant wait to get a property tax bill for my “personal information.” Since it is something that can be sold and resold, it technically carries value so should be counted as taxable property, right? If I pay property taxes for a car a bank owns, and then the DMV goes and sells my data (which they’ve been proven to do), the line of ethics has been erased completely. It’s really not personal information anymore, and all these BILLIONS of records being taken are because the companies treat our data like afterthoughts and pass it around more than doobies at Woodstock 1969. It feels like too deep a hole for us to dig out of at this point - it’s like a comment you make and wish you could take back but it’s already out there - but I am hopeful we see some major shifts in privacy around here.

We're hiring a social media manager ?? We believe we can manage social media in a way that doesn't totally destroy our privacy and our mental health (like we do on linkedin!) One of our goals this summer is to help more people find the right balance between exposure and privacy on social media. So, we're hiring a social media manager. We'd love to hear from current students or recent grads. More experienced folks are more than welcome to reach out too. More details in the link below ?? -Team Kanary
